Patent number: 10287009Abstract: The present invention relates to a blade folding apparatus that may incorporate an overhead blade lifting system that reduces binding loads on blade pins induced by blade weight and pitch, and a folding mechanism that removes the necessity of personnel with external guide-poles to rotate main rotor blades. The apparatus may include flap locks, an overhead lifting system support structure attached to the flap locks, and two blade support beams to create and support a lifting point near each blade's longitudinal and lateral center of gravity. The blade support beams may be fitted with an articulation mechanism that lifts and/or lowers the overhead lifting structure. The apparatus facilitates rapid folding of the main rotor blades, and, when used with blade clamping mechanisms, is capable of aiding in the removal and/or the re-installation of the main rotor blades without external lifting mechanisms.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2016Date of Patent: May 14, 2019Assignee: ALION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Eric Peterson, Jeremiah Schweitzer, Zachary Anderson

Patent number: 9238586Abstract: A method cleans a plurality of filters in parallel, each filter having an inlet side and an outlet side separated by a filter barrier. In an operational phase, water is filtered using a plurality of the filters, by passing the water through the filter. In a cleaning phase, at least one of the filters is cleaned while the other filters are filtering water in the operational phase. Each filter is cleaned by supplying sodium hypochlorite to an inlet side of the filter when the filter is off-line. The inlet side of the filter is allowed to soak in the sodium hypochlorite for at least 30 seconds without the sodium hypochlorite being pressurized through the filter barrier during the soaking process. The filters are cycled through the cleaning phase such that each filter is repeatedly cleaned while other filters are filtering in the operational phase.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2009Date of Patent: January 19, 2016Assignee: Alion Science & TechnologyInventors: Donald W. Publication number: 20100140170Abstract: A method cleans a plurality of filters in parallel, each a filter having an inlet side and an outlet side separated by a filter barrier. In an operational phase, water is filtered using a plurality of the filters, by passing the water through the filter, from the inlet side to the outlet side. These filters may be a hollow fiber membrane. In a cleaning phase, at least one of the filters is cleaned while the other filters are filtering water in the operational phase. The inlet side of the filter is allowed to soak in the sodium hypochlorite for at least 30 seconds without the sodium hypochlorite being pressurized through the filter barrier during the soaking process. This oxidizes organic contaminates near the surface of the filter. The filters are cycled through the cleaning phase such that each filter is repeatedly cleaned while other filters are filtering in the operational phase.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 20, 2009Publication date: June 10, 2010Applicant: Alion Science and TechnologyInventors: Donald W. Publication number: 20060242546Abstract: A method and apparatus for decoding forward error correction (FEC) encoded data. A stream of units of FEC encoded bits are received, where the units are derived from a transmitted signal, where each unit represents a one-bit data value, and where each unit includes correctness bits that together reflect a level of probability that the one-bit data value represented by the unit differs from corresponding bits in the signal before it was transmitted. The stream of units of FEC encoded bits are decoded by using the quality level of bits to perform soft-decision convolution decoding on the stream of units of FEC bits, where the soft-decision convolution decoding produces, for block decoding, a stream of symbols made up of bits.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2006Publication date: October 26, 2006Applicant: Alion Science and Technology Corp.Inventors: Michael Maiuzzo, Kenneth Roberts
