Patent number: 6349576Abstract: A lockable sash assembly for installation on a window assembly is provided. The window assembly includes sashes movable relative to each other to open and close the window assembly when the lockable sash assembly is in a window-openable condition and substantially unmovable relative to each other when the lockable sash assembly is in a window-unopenable condition. The sash assembly includes a sashlock having a rotating device (such as a lever-controlled cam) which is movable between a window-openable position and a window-unopenable position. The sash assembly also includes a locking device which is convertible between a locked state whereat the rotating device is blocked from moving from the window-unopenable position to the window-openable position and an unlocked state whereat the rotating device is unblocked from moving from the window-unopenable position to the window-openable position.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1997Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: Allen-Stevens Corp.Inventor: Edward J. Patent number: 6347820Abstract: The sash lock has a rotatable cam which engages the keeper. The sash lock has a slide plate mounted below the cam and the slide plate moves between a retracted position in which its leading edge is flush with the sash to which the lock is mounted. In an extended position in which the leading edge of the plate extends far enough to block the narrow gap between the sashes. The slide plate is mounted for movement perpendicular to the edge of the sash and parallel to the plane of the top surface of the sash. The slide plate includes an arcuate recess in one side of the plate which is engaged by a pin extending from the rotatable cam. The recess in the slide plate is contoured so that during initial portion of the movement of the cam from its open position toward its locked position, the slide plate does not move.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2000Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: Allen Stevens CorpInventor: Edward J. Patent number: 5927771Abstract: A single point lock or cam lock for a casement window is provided. The lock includes an escutcheon providing a low profile and a smooth uninterrupted surface which faces the inside of the room. The handle includes two opposing legs that enter the escutcheon for attachment to the hook through opposing side walls of the escutcheon. A shaft provides the connection between the hook and the handle which rotates on two brace structures provided by the frame. The frame is sandwiched between the escutcheon and the inside surface of the window frame. The design of the escutcheon, the shaft and the braces of the frame provide for an effective seal against the inside surface of the window frame.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1997Date of Patent: July 27, 1999Assignee: Allen-Stevens Corp.Inventors: Clifford Elliott Simon, Todd Allan Anderson, Edward J. Patent number: 5839229Abstract: A window operator for a wide range of sizes of casement windows includes a housing in which a worm gear is mounted. An arm assembly has a gear segment that engages with the worm gear so that rotation of the worm gear causes the arm assembly and window sash to pivot outward or inward. The arm assembly includes three arms which are telescopically arranged. The inner arm and lead arm have outward facing races. The center arm has an inverted U-shape with downwardly extending legs of the U each have corresponding races. As the worm turns, the arm assembly rotates outward and the three arms slide with respect to one another.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1996Date of Patent: November 24, 1998Assignee: Allen-Stevens Corp.Inventors: Jeffrey M. Patent number: 5829802Abstract: An operator for a multi-point locking system for a casement window is provided. The operator includes a handle having two opposing legs that pass through side walls in the escutcheon thereby leaving the outer wall of the escutcheon intact. Due to a delay between movement of the handle and the first link which indirectly imparts movement of the handle to the tie bar, the handle can be rotated a full 180.degree. between the open and the closed positions while the first link is rotated through an angle of less than 180.degree.. As a result, the handle lies in a flat position with respect to the inside window frame surface in both the open and closed positions. Because of the handle design which employs two opposing legs disposed on opposite sides of the escutcheon, the operator can be used both on the right side and the left side of a window frame. The legs of the handle include inwardly extending shafts which are accommodated and supported by braces disposed on opposing sides of the base.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1997Date of Patent: November 3, 1998Assignee: Allen-Stevens Corp.Inventors: Todd Allan Anderson, Clifford Elliott Simon, Edward J. Patent number: 5735021Abstract: A snap stud assembly is provided for pivotally connecting two hardware members together. A stud is disposed within a tubular sleeve. A lower or bottom end of the stud is attached to a lower hardware member by pressing or deforming the bottom end of the stud member to provide an interference fit. The upper hardware member is mounted over a top end of the plastic sleeve which includes a top flange but which is resiliently compressible in the radially inward direction so that the top hardware member may be easily forced over the top end of the plastic sleeve. Once installed, the upper hardware member is disposed between a top flange and a bottom flange of the plastic sleeve which serves as a bushing about which the top member pivots as well as a washer between the top hardware member and bottom hardware member.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1997Date of Patent: April 7, 1998Assignee: Allen-Stevens Corp.Inventor: Jeffrey M. Patent number: 4342493Abstract: Electrical devices of outdoor electrical receptacles are protected from weather conditions. A protective cover and a waterproofing gasket are pivotally mounted on a plate for movement along a circular path between a fully closed position, in which the gasket prevents water from reaching the device, and a fully open position, in which access to the electrical device is permitted. A leaf spring having a planar movable portion constantly and affirmatively urges the cover to the closed position. In order to ensure a reliable and automatic return of the cover to the closed position, an anti-over-the-center stop prevents a leading end of the cover, which engages the planar spring portion at a contact zone, from moving the latter beyond an imaginary line which extends from the center of curvature of the circular path in a radial direction towards, and at a right angle to, the plane of the spring portion. The cover is easily mounted by snap-type action to the plate under spring tension.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 1980Date of Patent: August 3, 1982Assignee: Allen-Stevens Corp.Inventor: David Grenell

Patent number: 4271554Abstract: An elongated rectilinear tool for formation of a threaded hole in ductile metal by the coining or flowing of the metal. The tool typically is employed to form through threaded holes in a piece of ductile metal, and features a working end having a boring tip or drill point and a spade section having a flat shank with grooves in its lateral edges. The spade section holds the drill point and extends back a short distance from the working end. The diameter of the tool then enlarges slightly at a small inclined section which is followed by a longer coining tap section. The coining (flowing) of metal forms a thread on the previously smooth wall of the drilled hole, with peaks or crests, and roots. The lateral grooving of the spade section tracks, i.e. fits, into the fully formed threading as the present tool is screwed out.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1979Date of Patent: June 9, 1981Assignee: Allen-Stevens Corp.Inventor: David Grenell
