Abstract: An antenna (10) having a plurality of unitary dipole antennas (12) formed by folding a stamped piece of sheet metal. Each of the unitary dipole antennas (12) are fed by two stripline feed systems (20, 22). Each of these feed systems are separated above and extend over a groundplane (14) and are separated by an air dielectric to minimize intermodulation (IM). Phase shifters (40, 42, 44) in combination with a downtilt control lever (52) are slidably adjusted beneath the respective dividing portions of the stripline feed system to adjust signal phase and achieve a uniform beam tilt having uniform and balanced side lobes. These stripline feed systems can also be formed from stamped sheet metal and which have distal ends bent 90° upward to couple to the respective dipole antennas (12).

  • Patent number: 5543758
Abstract: A dual-band filter providing a bandpass characteristic over a first predetermined range of frequencies, and a notch, or band-reject characteristic over a second predetermined range of frequencies. In one embodiment, the notch characteristic occurs within the bandpass characteristic, yielding a filter frequency response with two asymmetric passbands separated by a reject band. This is particularly suited to cellular Band A receive filter applications, but the design is easily adapted to other uses. Appropriate tuning can restore symmetry to the passbands.

  • Patent number: 5541979
Abstract: A cell extender for use in digital cellular telephone systems comprises a control module, and scanning module, and several traffic modules. The control module bidirectionally repeats the donor cell site control channels. Voice modules therein bidirectionally repeat selected donor traffic channels for mobiles. The voice module amplifies and translates the Reverse Digital Traffic Channel RDTC (transmitted by the mobile). The voice module reframes the Forward Digital Traffic Channel, and advances its timing such that RDTC signals transmitted by the mobile and repeated by the cell extender arrive at the donor with the correct timing alignment. The timing advance compensates for RF path propagation delay between the donor and the cell extender, and for any additional delay through the cell extender. If the voice module determines that the mobile is leaving the cell extender coverage area, it sends a hand-off message returning the mobile to the assigned donor traffic channel.

  • Patent number: 5495216
Abstract: A dual-mode dielectric-resonator-loaded cavity filter comprises a generally cylindrical cavity, at least two longitudinally-spaced dielectric resonator elements coaxially aligned within the cavity, and at least one coupling obstacle disposed between the resonators and extending a distance from the cavity wall. The coupling obstacles are preferably conductive and are electrically connected to the cavity wall. However, the obstacles may be constructed of a dielectric material in some applications. Each obstacle may be aligned with one of the reference planes corresponding to a resonant mode of the resonators to effectively control or reduce the coupling between the parallel resonant modes of adjacent resonators. The reduction in coupling between resonant modes of adjacent resonators allows large coupling differentials to be produced, allowing a filter designer to implement a wide variety of high-performance filters without expensive irises.

  • Patent number: 5446729
Abstract: An improved multiplexer comprises a housing, a transmission line transformer section within the housing extending in a first direction, and at least two interdigital transmission line filters adjacently disposed within the housing along the first direction. The transformer section has a first end electrically coupled to an antenna circuit connector, and a second end electrically coupled to the housing (i.e. grounded). Each filter includes several resonating elements. At least one resonating element of each filter is located in proximity with a portion of the transformer such that electrical coupling between the filter and the transformer is established. The length of each coupling portion of the transformer is approximately one-quarter electrical wavelength at the center frequency of the associated filter. The dimensions of the filter cavities are preferably selected to be as small as possible without unacceptably degrading the filter insertion loss.

  • Patent number: 5440281
Abstract: A multichannel combiner includes a plurality of input ports for connection to associated transmitters, narrow bandpass filters associated with each port, and an output port for connection to an antenna system. The output impedance of the filters is selected to be substantially lower than that used in conventional combiners, such that undesired reactance produced in the combiner over its operating range is much reduced. The combiner further includes an impedance transformer to match the low output impedance of the filters to the design impedance of the antenna system.
