  • Patent number: 5002235
Abstract: A printing press material roll lift and drive assembly (40) has a base (16) and a lift support frame (18). The lift support frame provides support for opposed front and rear vertical rails (50). A U-shaped carriage (54) is mounted for elevation on the rails and includes side support plates (56) having rail rollers (57) and an upper plate (58). The carriage is raised and lowered by a releasing ram (80) attached to the support frame at its upper end (82) and to the carriage at its lower end (86), said support plates including bearings receiving a carriage shaft (64). The shaft includes a cantilevered outer end (68) receiving the paper roll core (69) and an inner end (72). The inner end is driven by a magnetic particle clutch (102) mounted to the base and having a drive shaft (106) by means of an endless belt (112) extending between a drive shaft pulley (110) and a carriage shaft pulley (74 ). The endless belt includes a belt tensioner (114).

  • Patent number: 4998829
Abstract: A sideframe (12) of a printing press has a slot (18) having opposed elongate grooves (30, 32) receiving an adjustable gib (14) and a fixed gib (16) respectively for receiving a rotary die journal bearing block (10) therebetween in sliding movement. The adjustable gib has a stem (38) received within the associated side groove (30) and attached by adjustment fasteners (40), each of which includes an eccentric portion (42) received with an associated stem opening (48) to move adjustable gib relative to fixed gib which has a stem (56) received within the associated side groove (32) and attached by fasteners (58), to vary the width of the slot. The adjustable gib includes an elongate groove (54) which receives a bearing block key (86) said key being attached to said bearing block by an adjustment fastener (74) to permit lateral adjustment of said bearing block relative to said sideframe.

  • Patent number: 4859087
Abstract: A journal bearing block (10) has opposed sides (62, 63) received in sliding relation between the opposed sides defined by gibs (14, 16) of a slot (18) of a printing press sideframe (12). One of the gibs (14) has an elongate groove (54) and one of the bearing block sides (62) has an adjacent elongate groove (74). A key (86) is received by the bearing block groove (64) and includes an outstanding portion (90) extending into the gib groove. The key includes a threaded opening (70) and is connected to the bearing block by a rotatable adjustment screw (74). The key is narrower than the bearing block groove but substantially the same thickness as the gib groove, whereby rotation of the adjustment screw causes the key to travel laterally in the bearing block groove with the result that the bearing block, with its rotary die journal travels laterally relative to the sideframe (12).
