  • Patent number: 4458776
Abstract: A sealing means on a vehicle cab for force and motion transmitting members between the control levers in the cab and the control devices external of the cab.The force and motion transmitting members or energy transmitting members are connected to the controls and extend through an opening in the corner of one of the cab walls and the floor. A carrier plate having slots receives the cables or wires and a plate having a deformable layer is clamped between the cover plate and the carrier plate to form an airtight seal around the cables or wires thereby closing the opening in the wall and floor and providing an airtight seal and a thermal insulating medium as well as a sound dampening device.

  • Patent number: 4458471
Abstract: A ground speed control for an agricultural combine driven by a turbocharged engine through a variable transmission continuously monitors a plurality of speed and load parameters of the combine and engine, identifies the controlling parameter representing the limiting capacity in the harvesting process as field conditions change, and varies combine ground speed in response to such controlling parameter to maximize the harvest cutting rate. Sensors monitor ground speed, boost pressure and engine speed parameters and convert them to electrical signals which are compared to boost pressure and ground speed setpoint signals selected by the operator and to a fixed engine speed setpoint signal to derive error signals for such parameters. Voltage level sensitive OR-means and AND-means establish deadbands for the error signals having upper and lower limits on opposite sides of the corresponding setpoint signals.

  • Patent number: 4458697
Abstract: An axial flow combine (11) includes a processor (33) at an elevated position in a housing (63) providing adequate space between the processor (33) and the housing walls (64, 66, 62, 67, 68) to insure gravity movement of threshed material exiting the cage (34) to a single distribution auger (37) and to a slot (69) feeding a pair of vertically offset accelerator rolls (41, 42).

  • Patent number: 4457316
Abstract: An axial flow combine (11) includes a processor (13) at an elevated position in a housing (63) providing adequate space between the cage (34) and the front and rear housing walls (64, 66, 62, 67, 68) and to permit steep incline of wall portions 62, 67, 68 to insure gravity movement of threshed material exiting the case (34) to a single distribution auger (37) and to a slot (69) feeding a pair of vertically offset accelerator rolls (41, 42). The beforementioned features and a smooth exterior of the processor cage (34) permit elimination of a cage sweep mechanism previously employed in similar combines.

  • Patent number: 4456268
Abstract: A means maintaining compressive force in a seal assembly to assure seal reliability. The valve cover is fastened to the engine head with a shoulder bolt which carries Belleville washers compressively positioned between the bolt head and valve cover. The gasket load and deflection is determined by the compressive force or gasket loading of the Belleville washers on the unthreaded length of the shoulder bolt. The resilience of the Belleville washers maintains a continuous force on the gasket for the life of the sealed assembly.

  • Patent number: 4455812
Abstract: A self-propelled combine (11) includes a drive train driven by the engine (16) which includes a transverse power shaft (47) by which a header (24), a threshing rotor (34), a bin unloading mechanism (88), the change speed transmission (76) and the cleaning mechanism are driven. The power transmitting components of the shaft assembly, including a double electric clutch (44), are carried by the end portions (46, 161) of the transverse shaft (47) at the laterally outer sides of the side walls (51, 52) on which the shaft (47) is supported. The double electric clutch (44) includes air circulating means (101, 102 and 93-98) and is removable from the shaft (47) upon removal of a cap screw (118).

  • Patent number: 4441513
Abstract: A combine harvester vehicle having threshing, separating and cleaning stages for cut crop material and a tailings return elevator for conveying tailings to one of the stages for recycling, is provided with a tailings monitor including a photodiode for transmitting a radiant energy beam across the path of tailings being conveyed in the elevator, an electrical circuit including a photodetector for deriving digital signals indicative of whether the beam is impinging on the photodetector or is being interrupted by the tailings, and an RC circuit which charges a capacitor through a resistance when the digital signal is present indicating that the beam is interrupted and discharges it when the opposite digital signal is present to thereby develop an average voltage across the capacitor which is an analog of the percentage of time that the beam is interrupted by the tailings being conveyed in the elevator and can be visually displayed on a voltmeter to the combine operator as a measure of tailings volume.
