  • Patent number: 6298502
Abstract: A central steel column serves as a core module for a portable washstand. The column extends upwardly from a horizontal foot, and has foot pumps which communicate with a water intake tube and with water spigots. In addition, the central column has fasteners, such as adjustable bands, for connecting fresh and waste water receptacles to the column. The receptacles may be conventional cylindrical drums, which support a molded plastic countertop with washbasins positioned beneath the spigots. For decorative purposes, a molded front panel extends between the countertop and the base, and together with a sheet rear panel encloses the two drums. Paper towel and soap dispensers may be connected to the central column.

  • Patent number: 6286693
Abstract: A metal deck is received on the front and rear beams of a conventional rack system and is specially configured to receive a conventional nine leg plastic pallet. Weight and cost efficiency in the deck is achieved by concentrating the deck mass in those segments of the deck which make contact with the legs of the plastic pallet, and more particularly by recognizing that the center row of pallet legs carries a greater fraction of the pallet load then each of the outside rows of pallet legs. Closely spaced parallel front to back wire sections define pallet leg row support segments for the three rows of posts or legs of a plastic pallet, distributing the load of each leg over multiple wire segments. Front to back wires with an upwardly opening v-section are connected by struts to the wires within each support segment. Thus a single truss is formed as a part of each side support segment, and two trusses are formed as a part of the center support segment.

  • Patent number: 6234087
Abstract: A modular pallet system has two or more pallets, each of which has four legs and which is capable of standing on its own as an independent unit. The pallets are formed to dimensions which are a fraction of conventional pallet sizes, such that one pallet alone serves as a quarter of a standard dimensioned pallet, while two pallets combined serve as a half of a standard dimensioned pallet. Each pallet has tabs and slots on the perimeter edges, with the result that two or more of the small pallets can be assembled into a standard size pallet in an interference fit without tools. The pallets may be produced as single sheet thermoformed or twin sheet thermoformed parts, or could be injection molded or structural foam molded. An adapter may be attached in a snap fit beneath four joined pallets to facilitate interaction between the combined pallets and conventional racks and conveyors, and to facilitate stacking.

  • Patent number: 6186078
Abstract: A deck is defined by closely spaced molded ribs with pairs of ramped tine entry openings molded adjacent each edge which are tapered to provide maximum clearance. A narrow lip extends at an angle upwardly from each edge, permitting the platform to be engaged and manipulated by conventional slip sheet handling equipment, while the tine entry ramps permit a powered forklift truck to engage its fork tines beneath the platform. To facilitate deflection of the platform ribs on entry of the forklift tines, the ribs in the path of the tines may have curved valleys, while ribs not in the path may have generally square valleys. The platform may also be constructed through twin sheet thermoforming, foam molding, corrugated paperboard assembly. The platform has a horizontal load support deck with side walls which extend downwardly. Two tine inlet access openings are defined in each side wall, with the height of each access opening being less than the maximum height of a forklift tine.

  • Patent number: 6086354
Abstract: Multiple legs elevate a central ring bearing, to which a ring-shaped rotatable plastic sheet support carousel is mounted. The carousel is fitted with a ring gear which engages with a drive system to position the carousel and the thermoplastic sheets supported from it. A multi-post vertical press is positioned with two posts extending upwardly interior to the ring bearing, and two posts extending upwardly exterior to the ring bearing. The ring bearing thus extends through the press, allowing the carousel to supply and remove plastic sheets to and from the press. An upper platen and a lower platen are mounted for vertical displacement to the posts, thereby ensuring a high degree of parallelism between the molds mounted to the platens, and accurate twin-sheet thermoforming.

  • Patent number: 5805279
Abstract: A can end to be inspected, including a portion coated by a sealing material, is illuminated by polarized light. The light reflected from the object and sealing material is viewed by a camera through a polarizing filter. The polarizing filter blocks out polarized light reflected by the can end and sealing material that does not contain any defects, but passes light reflected by the sealing material that has been depolarized by a defect in the sealing material.

  • Patent number: 5714045
Abstract: A jacketed anode assembly for use in a sacrificial anode cathodic protection system deployed to impede corrosion of steel or steel reinforcement in pilings or similar supporting columns. A non-conductive jacket formed of mating shell halves is lined along its interior surface with sheets of expanded metal such as expanded zinc. The metal sheets are of a composition higher on the galvanic series than the steel reinforcement such that the sheets serve as sacrificial anodes when coupled with the steel reinforcement. The jacket and zinc lining are installed as a unit on the piling with the jacket interior surface facing the periphery of the piling and in spaced apart relationship therewith. In this space, a filling material can be introduced to both secure the metal sheets in place between the jacket and piling as well as serve as an electrolyte between the steel reinforcement and the metal sheet.

  • Patent number: 5498758
Abstract: A method for applying a cold end lubricating coating to glassware articles on which a hot end metal oxide coating may have been applied includes conveying the glassware articles through a heated vapor deposition chamber provided by thermally isolating a conveyer portion. Lubricating coating material, such as a fatty acid, is liquified in a heated reservoir inside a heated tank which also contains a heated vapor chamber. The reservoir and vapor chamber are separated by an internal wall of the tank. At least one flow of the liquefied coating material is directed to at least one vaporizer positioned on the tank adjacent to the reservoir and vapor chamber. The liquefied coating material is vaporized by feeding a flow of pressurized air to each vaporizer such that vaporous particles of liquefied coating material are entrained in the air. The air and entrained vaporous particles are directed to a vapor deposition chamber.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for drying and curing a coating which as been applied in liquid form to a metal substrate. The process and apparatus include a precuring or drying of the coating by rapidly heating the sheet in an electromagnetic induction coil to volatilize solvents in the coating. The precured sheets are then immediately conveyed to a conventional convection oven for further heating the sheets by baking the sheets at a temperature and for a duration in accordance with the drying and curing specifications of the coating manufacturer. The induction coil is designed to heat the sheet metal in a narrow transverse band as the sheet moves through the induction coil. The power supply to the induction circuit is designed to permit the induction coil to be turned on under varying load.
