  • Patent number: 6126001
Abstract: A nestable security package for a media storage box includes a housing having a hanger end and a compartment. The compartment is formed by a front wall, a pair of spaced, parallel side walls, a rear wall, a bottom wall, and a top flange. These walls are disposed and configured to receive a media storage box. A locking mechanism is provided that may be moved from a locking position to an unlocked position wherein the media storage box is lockingly retained in the compartment when the locking mechanism is in the locked position. The object of the invention is to provide a security package which does not substantially increase the storage footprint depth of the media storage box. This object is achieved by providing wall configurations that allow one security package to nest with an adjacent security package such that the storage footprint depth of the media storage box is only increased by a single wall thickness.

  • Patent number: 6125668
Abstract: A security storage container for storing items of recorded media or other small items in a secure manner while allowing the items to be seen includes a box, a lid, and a slide latch. The slide latch is disposed outside the lid and is directly grasped by the user to move it between the locked and unlocked positions. The lid, box, and slide latch are configured to prevent a pry bar from being used to open the security container. The lid and slide latch include a locking mechanism that may be unlocked by a specific key. The lid is locked with respect to the box when a plurality of tangs disposed on the slide latch are trapped under a plurality of ledges disposed on the box.

  • Patent number: 6092401
Abstract: A security device affixable to a package includes a housing, a strap, and a crossover connector carried by a cable. The strap is formed with a toothed channel containing a plurality of teeth that lockingly engage with a plurality of locking fingers formed on the housing. The strap is selectively and slidably received within the housing and cannot be removed without the use of a special key. When the key is inserted into the housing, the pins of the key simultaneously deflect the locking fingers out of locking engagement with the teeth of the toothed channel, thus permitting the strap to be removed from the housing. The cable and crossover connector are configured such that the cable is in a figure-8 configuration, thus permitting a single cable to carry the housing and the strap of the security device, and further permitting a single cable to extend across all six surfaces of the parallelepiped package.

  • Patent number: 6065594
Abstract: A storage container for an item of recorded media includes a centrally disposed hub surrounded by and spaced from an outer wall. The hub includes a pair of resilient arms that cooperate to loosely but securely retain an item of recorded media having a centrally disposed inner hole. The hub includes a first support platform that includes a plurality of raised bumps that essentially frictionlessly support the item of recorded media from below. The outer wall includes a second support platform that also includes a plurality of bumps that supports the item of recorded media from below about its outer periphery. The outer wall also includes a blocking wall that extends above the outer edge to prevent the user from grasping the outer edge of the item of recorded media. The outer wall further contains a finger access hole that extends through the blocking wall that allows the user to grab the edge of the item of recorded media in a selected position that is aligned with the arms of the hub.

  • Patent number: 6041922
Abstract: A plastic case suitable for housing a DVD disk manufactured by assembling a sandwich of heat-sealable members and heat-sealing them together to permanently seal the parts together. The manufacture utilizes vacuum forming of a rigid plastic sheets rather than injection molding to form the critical part of the case that functions to hold the disk on a center hub and that allows release of the disk by pushing down on the center hub. The center hub comprises three projections surrounding and each connected by a valley region to a center button-shaped member. Each projection at its outer edge comprises a detent region projecting above a recessed region beneath which functions to hold the disk in its mounted position above the level of the surrounding sheet surface. The recessed regions terminate below the disk in common, annular surface regions.

  • Patent number: 5996788
Abstract: A storage container for an item of recorded media includes a centrally disposed hub surrounded by and spaced from an outer wall. The hub includes a pair of cantilevered resilient arms that cooperate to loosely but securely retain an item of recorded media. The top of the hub is disposed at a height higher than the tops of the arms such that force on the hub will fail to move the resilient arms. The hub also includes a first support platform that includes a plurality of raised bumps that essentially frictionlessly support the item of recorded media from below. The outer wall includes a second support platform that also includes a plurality of bumps that supports the item of recorded media from below about its outer periphery. The outer wall also includes a blocking wall that extends above the outer edge to prevent the user from grasping the outer edge of the item of recorded media.

  • Patent number: 5969613
Abstract: An electronic article surveillance security device securable to an article to be protected from theft where the device includes a strap that is wrapped around or inserted through the article, and then tightly secured within a housing of the device that includes an electronic article surveillance tag. The housing has smooth tamper resistant seams and edges and a locking device for securely holding the strap once inserted therein. The strap includes ribs that are engageable within the housing by locking fingers and lips, all of which define a one-way locking mechanism that allows for insertion of the strap but denies removal once inserted. In at least one embodiment of the invention, a locking mechanism is provided that may be unlocked such that the security device may be reused with various articles.

  • Patent number: 5934114
Abstract: A reusable plastic package for securely holding and displaying a rectangular article such as a compact disc. This reusable plastic package includes a housing having a rectangular-shaped storage compartment for selectively storing an article in the compartment. The storage compartment has an access opening for inserting and removing the article into and out of the compartment. An adjacent smaller compartment functions as a lock compartment whereby a slide plate is slidably mounted thereon and selectively movable across a portion of the access opening of the storage compartment for releasably securing the article in the storage compartment. Deflectable locking levers are formed within the lock compartment and engage with mating projections formed on the slide plate when the slide plate is in the locked position for securing the article within the package due to a portion of the slide plate blocking the access opening.

  • Patent number: 5931291
Abstract: A multi-media shipping container, such as a compact disc or video cassette container, having a base and a lid hingedly connected by a hinge assembly and movable between open and closed positions, whereby the shipping container includes a tear away latching mechanism which when torn away provides a storage container. The latching mechanism is mounted on the container and includes a pair of flexible flaps or strips which are hingedly connected to the base and lid by reduced thickness living hinges. The flaps overlap one another and interengage one another to thereby lock the base and lid together in a tamper proof and pry-resistant manner. The flaps are grasped and pulled outwardly and along the front of the container by a user thereby tearing them away. The reduced thickness living hinges are torn from the container leaving a usual compact disc or VHS video cassette storage container.
