  • Patent number: 5950513
Abstract: An apparatus for converting rotary motion developed by a power source, such as an alternating current motor, into linear motion for use in accelerating a carriage in a reciprocal manner in a work treatment area of a cut-off machine. The apparatus includes a power train for transferring the power from the power source to a rack attached to the carriage. The power train includes a drive unit having a drive pulley, an idler pulley and an endless drive belt disposed about the pulleys. The drive belt engages the rack wherein activation of the power source results in motion of the rack which correspondingly moves the carriage.

  • Patent number: 5088365
Abstract: A cut-off die set of the double cut type, in which sections of tubing are successively severed from a length of tubing, utilizing a notching cut followed by a severing cut. A rack and pinion assembly is used to transform the vertical reciprocating motion of the upper and lower platen into the horizintal reciprocating motion used for the notching stroke. The rack and pinion assembly comprises a rack mounted to the upper platen and a gear sector mounted to the lower platen, the gear sector includes a drive roller which engages a cam track on the cross slide. As the upper platen and lower platen are vertically reciprocated, the rack member causes the gear sector to rotate, sliding the drive roller through an arcuate path. Movement of the drive roller through the arcuate path causes the cross slide to move in a reciprocating manner in relation to the reciprocating motion of the upper and lower platens.

  • Patent number: 5074143
Abstract: A die cart adapted to be used for the removal and installation of a cut-off die set from the carriage of a cut-off press. Whereby a slide member operating on a set of guide rails mounted to an independent frame and driven by a drive screw assembly is coupled to the die set. The drive screw assembly is then rotated to pull the die set off the carriage of the cut-off press onto the die cart and the die cart is then removed. Further, the guide rails are pivotal about a point on the frame to enable the die cart to install and remove cut-off die sets secured from the inclined carriage of a cut-off press.

  • Patent number: 5009140
Abstract: A clamping apparatus allowing an operator to securely position and clamp a cut-off die set to the carriage of a cut-off press. The clamping arrangement includes outwardly beveled sides on the die set coacting with an inwardly beveled stop and an inwardly beveled eccentric clamping member. The clamping member being rotatable to allow the die set to be placed in the proper position on the carriage. After positioning the die set on the carriage, the eccentric clamping members are rotated to contact the outwardly beveled edge of the platen thereby wedging the platen between the stop and the eccentric clamping members.

  • Patent number: 4970517
Abstract: A microwave horn having a narrow radiation beam characteristic is energized by a Gunn oscillator coupled to a driver/detector that turns the Gunn oscillator on for a small fraction of a period to produce a sequence of detected pulses representative of an item being sensed that is amplified by an A.C. amplifier and filtered with gain controlled by a sensitivity potentiometer that energizes a threshold detector to produce threshold pulses that trigger hold-off circuitry to produce an output pulse when the threshold pulse is outside the duration of the output pulse. A hold-off potentiometer controls the duration of each output pulse. An output driver amplifies the output pulse and delivers it to an output terminal.

  • Patent number: 4734749
Abstract: Method of manufacturing silicon mesa diodes from a wafer of silicon. The surface of the wafer is coated with a first layer of silicon nitride and a second layer of silicon oxide. By masking and etching procedures, silicon nitride is left only on the portions of the surface defining the mesas to be formed. The wafer is etched to form the mesas and then treated to form a passivating silicon oxide coating at all the exposed surfaces of the wafer. The silicon nitride is removed from the upper surfaces of the mesas and metal contacts are applied to these upper surfaces. The wafer is subsequently divided into discrete dice, each containing a mesa, and the dice are mounted in suitable enclosures.
