Abstract: A converter is provided having a converter vessel carried on a trunnion ring by a mounting system. The mounting system has six mounting elements including a plurality of mounting elements incorporating pendulum rods and one mounting element incorporating a stabilizer device. Each pendulum rod is connected at one end to the trunnion ring and at the other end to the converter vessel. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the mounting system includes three longitudinal mounting devices each having a longitudinal pendulum rod; two transverse mounting devices each having a transverse pendulum rod; and a stabilizer device having a pair of spaced stabilizer blocks connected to the trunnion ring and a pair of stabilizer elements connected to the converter vessel. The longitudinal mounting devices and the stabilizer device are located below the trunnion ring and the transverse mounting devices are located above the trunnion ring when the converter vessel is in an upright position.

Abstract: Apparatus for use on hot and cold rolling mills for retaining a roller bearing assembly and chock as an integral unit during removal or replacement of a roll. A clamping means of the assembly can be disposed to either engage an annular groove in a necked portion of the roll as during operation of the mill or not engage the groove as during removal or replacement of the roll. The clamping means remains slideably connected to the assembly as the clamping means is disposed for axial movement of the chock and bearing assembly during removal or replacement.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for viewing and analyzing the interior of a molten metal bath during treatment in a metallurgical vessel comprises a concentric pipe tuyere extending into an open mouth of the vessel and below the surface of the bath and comprising an inner pipe through which a pressurized transparent fluid is passed, and an outer pipe forming, with the inner pipe, an annulus through which a cooling fluid is passed. A sight glass is disposed in alignment with an opening in the inner pipe and with a centerline of the tuyere providing visual access to the interior of the bath. An optical sensor is associated with the sight glass to receive and analyze light generated in the bath to determine molten metal properties such as temperature and chemical composition.
Abstract: There is disclosed in the present application a traction device adapted to being mounted on a driving wheel tire of a vehicle for obtaining greater traction on ice or snow although the device may also be useful in certain types of mud. The device comprises four spring arms each including a textured traction portion positioned across the face of the tire tread. The device is quickly mounted over the tire by collapsing and spreading apart the tread portions to permit bringing the device into engagement with the tire from a radial direction. The four arms in two pairs are then disposed at right angles to each other and are thereafter simultaneously tightened into embracing generally equally spaced relationship with the tire by turning a spring loaded crank.
