The arrangement is such that, after the first opening of the closure assembly (1), the lip portion (7) is arranged in the opened-out condition in which it extends radially outside of the lower sleeve element (9) but permits subsequent re-fitting of the cap (6) on the pourer unit (2) as far as the closure position in which the lower sleeve element (9) and the upper sleeve element (8) once more extend the predetermined distance (d) apart.

Abstract: The end wall of a screw cap of rigid thermoplastics material is provided with a sealing ring of heat-polymerized plastisol and the cylindrical skirt of the cap has an internal multiple thread at its upper end, an intermediate opening tear-strip and a lower part with an internal annular engagement rib which snap-engages under an annular rib of triangular cross-section situated below the thread of the threaded neck of a rigid container. The annular rib of the cap is interrupted in a plurality of zones and the neck of the container has a corresponding plurality of projections which extend downwards from the base of the triangular rib and, upon completion of the first screwing on of the cap, are each positioned in one of the interrupted zones of the rib of the cap, so as to prevent both a limited accidental unscrewing of the cap and the overtightening of the cap, and thus prevent the seal of the closure from being compromised in both cases.

Abstract: The mouth of a rigid container, particularly of glass, having a screw closure device and usable for food products intended to be subjected to heat treatment in the container to preserve them, is provided with an annular rib of triangular profile below the threading. Screwed onto the mouth is a rigid plastic capsule having a plastic mastic sealing coating on the inner surface of its top and incorporating in its peripheral skirt a tearing band for opening. The lower part of the cylindrical skirt of the capsule constitutes a security seal and has an inner annular engagement rib which snap-engages beneath the annular rib of the mouth.

Abstract: A closure applying apparatus (1) suitable for use in capping machines for placing, on a container (B) having a threaded neck portion (26) and an annular collar (30) below said neck portion, a tamper-evident screw-type capsule (A) made of rigid plastic material and having a lower skirt portion (27) which is connected by a plurality of thin frangible bridge portions (28) to an upper internally threaded skirt portion (22) and is provided with an inwardly projecting bead (29) for snap engaging beneath said annular collar (30) as a result of screwing of the capsule (a) on the container (B). The apparatus comprises a rotary, vertically reciprocable capping chuck having a plurality of jaws (4) for gripping the capsule (A), each jaw (4) being provided at its lower end with an inner flange (14) which engages from below the edge of the lower skirt portion (27).
