Abstract: A method and apparatus for treatment of unburnts in a flue stream 9 of a chemical looping combustion system. Unburnts present in the flue stream 9 are treated after CO2 is removed from the flue stream in a gas processing unit 13. As shown in FIG. 2, oxidation of the unburnts occurs primarily in an air reactor 2 in the presence of air 1, allowing the system to maintain CO2 capture effectiveness and removing the need for creation of enriched or pure oxygen 11.

  • Patent number: 7296349
Abstract: When constructing a steam generator, buckstay modules are joined with tube wall units to form buckstay and tube wall modules while the boiler steel structure is being erected, and they are temporarily placed within the boiler steel structure level by level. Then an external part of the boiler top main grid is constructed whose beams are flush with the tube walls of the buckstay and tube wall modules. Then the boiler wall is mounted by aligning and welding the individual tube wall modules from top to bottom. Simultaneously, the internal components are constructed on the boiler base and hoisted to installation height. Preassembling buckstay and tube wall modules eliminate the need for inserting buckstays or tube walls from above through the boiler top main grid. For this reason, the roof opening can be smaller than usual. The inner boiler top main grid therefore does not require its own main beams, which saves a substantial amount of steel.

  • Patent number: 6749665
Abstract: When cleaning a barrier filter, comprising a plurality of filter elements, of woven fabric of felt, arranged to separate particles out of a polluted gas, the filter elements are cleaned, separately or in groups, by pressurized air pulses, the frequency, the maximum pressure and the duration of which are varied in order to minimize, by an adjustment, the total emission of dust. The frequency and/or the maximum pressure and/or the duration of the cleaning pulses are varied for a group or a plurality of groups of filter elements. After each cleaning pulse, the maximum value for the instantaneous emission of dust, the emission peak, is determined and the emission peak is used, after cleaning a certain group of filter elements, for selecting the frequency and/or the maximum pressure and/or the duration of the cleaning pulses for this group of filter elements during continued operation.

  • Patent number: 6737031
Abstract: The method of simultaneously reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions produced by the combustion of carbon-containing matter in a hearth consists in injecting into the hearth a calcium-based agent, a fraction of which absorbs SO2 after decarbonization, and then, after the flue gases have been subjected to intermediate cooling, in causing them to transit via a first reactor and in putting them in contact therein with the other fraction of the absorbant that has not reacted with SO2 so as to capture CO2 from the flue gases by carbonization, then, in a separator, in extracting the solids contained in the flue gases output from the first reactor so as to subject them to heat treatment in a second reactor in order to extract CO2 therefrom by decarbonization and in order to recycle the resulting regenerated CO2 absorbant to the first reactor.

  • Patent number: 6709233
Abstract: A turbine stator vane for use in an axial flow gas turbine. The vane has an aerofoil, the pressure face of which is convex between platform and tip regions in a plane which extends both radially of the turbine and transversely of the general working fluid flow direction between the vanes. The trailing edge of the aerofoil is straight from platform to tip, and the spanwise convex and concave curvatures of the aerofoil pressure and suction surfaces respectively are achieved by rotational displacement of the aerofoil sections about the straight trailing edge. However, the axial width of the aerofoil is substantially constant over substantially all of the aerofoil radial height and the chord line at mid-height aerofoil sections is shorter than the chord lines in aerofoil sections at platform or tip regions. Reducing chord length at the mid-height region in this way lowers aerodynamic profile losses without unduly affecting vane performance.

  • Patent number: 6684640
Abstract: A gas-fuelled burner, especially for gas turbines powered by low calorific value fuel, is provided with restrictors to slow the incoming fuel from inlets to a similar mass mean velocity as the air provided through inlets, thereby reducing turbulence and improving combustion. The restrictors and outlet passages carrying the fuel to the combustion pre-chamber are located in vanes of a radial inlet swirler so as to alternate with the air inlets. The geometry is such that the respective flows emerge tangentially to a notional circle centered on the combustion pre-chamber of the turbine. The circle is preferably between 0.7 and 1.0 times the diameter of the actual pre-chamber. The ratio of the area of the restrictor to that of the outlet passage may lie between 1:1.1 and 1:1.7, preferably 1:1.4.

  • Patent number: 6594995
Abstract: A turbocharged internal combustion engine is provided with a diverter valve arranged to divert part of the exhaust gas flow along a conduit for introduction into a turbine region. Exhaust gases flow from the conduit, through appropriate galleries in the turbocharger casing, into internal passages formed in at least some of the stator blades. From the internal passages, the exhaust gas passes through holes positioned near the downstream ends of the convex surfaces of the stator blades. In this manner, the diverted gas is introduced into the comparatively lower pressure of the turbine region thereby enabling the diverted exhaust gas to rejoin the mainstream exhaust gas and to do useful work in driving the rotor blades while, at the same time, avoiding choking the stator blades.
