    Abstract: A communication terminal includes a Radio Frequency (RF) unit and a baseband processor. The RF unit is operative to receive signals from a Base Station (BS) of a wireless communication network using a communication protocol that defines time frames divided in a time domain into zones. Each zone corresponds to a respective communication mode between the BS and the terminal and occupies respective time intervals within the frames. The baseband processor is coupled to receive from the BS via the RF unit synchronization information indicating whether the time intervals allocated to at least a given zone by the BS and by at least one other BS of the wireless communication network are synchronized with one another, and to process the signals received from the BS so as to cancel, responsively to the synchronization information, interference caused to the signals by the at least one other BS.

    Abstract: A method for communication includes allocating, in a multiple-access communication system (20) that uses multiple subcarriers, first subcarriers to a first communication terminal for transmitting first data, and second subcarriers to a second communication terminal for transmitting second data. The first communication terminal is assigned to modulate the first data onto at least some of the first subcarriers using a first multi-carrier modulation scheme, to produce a first signal. The second communication terminal is assigned to modulate the second data onto at least some of the second subcarriers using a second multi-carrier modulation scheme, which has a reduced peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) relative to the first multi-carrier modulation scheme, to produce a second signal. Simultaneous communication is carried out with the first and second communication terminals by simultaneously receiving the first and second signals over the first and second subcarriers.

    Abstract: A method for communication includes accepting a request from a transmitter to transmit data to a receiver in a multiple-access communication system that uses multiple subcarriers. A maximum number of the subcarriers on which the transmitter may transmit the data simultaneously without violating a predetermined signal power criterion is calculated. The transmitter is allocated a time-frequency allocation containing the maximum number of the subcarriers. The data is transmitted from the transmitter to the receiver using the allocated time-frequency allocation.
