  • Patent number: 9917500
Abstract: A non-traditional topology of a superconductive electric motor or generator increases the air gap flux density by reducing stray flux and concentrating lines of flux within the air gap. An electric motor or generator utilizing the invention will include three components: a rotating armature, a permanent magnet stator and a shielding sleeve. The shielding sleeve of the motor is a hollow cylinder that fits between the armature and the stator, and is configured to cool a plurality of high-temperature superconductors within it to a temperature below their critical temperatures. These superconductors are placed at an optimized position to redirect flux and promote greater efficiency.

  • Patent number: 9303619
Abstract: The hydrokinetic energy conversion system uses, in one embodiment, a perpendicular turbine coupled to an electrical generator and a laminar water flow shroud. The ballast and buoyancy system includes hydrofoils defining lateral sides of the shroud mounted on upper and lower decks. Ballast chambers are defined in some or all of the foils and each has a gas intake port and a water ballast output port. The shroud carries a source of compressed air, valves for control of air flow into the ballast chambers. The ballast and buoyancy system includes a control system with sensors for depth, pitch, yaw and roll of the shroud which generates valve control commands. Another embodiment utilizes an inline turbine and a radial water flow shroud with a plurality of circumferential hydrofoils. Struts mount the turbine near the primary hydrofoil and braces attach ring hydrofoils together. Alternatively, ballast chambers are defined in outboard-mounted ballast pods.

  • Patent number: 9242209
Abstract: This invention relates to the separation of components from a gas mixture. Aspects of the invention relate to the separation of components, for example carbon dioxide (CO2) and/or hydrogen sulphide (H2S) from, for example, acid gas, for example natural gas, syngas or process gas although features of the invention may be applied to other source gases. Such a process is sometimes referred to as acid gas removal (AGR). In examples described herein, the source gas mixture contains CO2 and/or H2S in addition to other components and in some examples, the CO2 and/or H2S components of the gas are referred to as acid gas components. In examples of the invention, some or all of the acid gas component is removed using a solvent absorption method; some examples described use a chemical absorption system (for example including N-Methyl diethanolamine (MDEA)), and others use a physical solvent (for example based on methanol (MeOH)).
