Patent number: 5685616Abstract: A ground engaging segment providing a running surface for wheels, endless tracks and the like, which is not pneumatic in nature, thereby not susceptible to puncture, and which is resiliently flexible to offer some resistance to shock. The ground engaging segment comprises a base and a number of removable, hollow, tubular ground engaging elements which extend transversely of the direction of travel of the running surface. Said ground engaging elements include an inner face for engagement to the base and an outer face for contact with the ground surface, and angular shaped side faces between the inner and outer faces allowing for resilient flexibility under normal load conditions. It is preferable that the ground engaging elements are open at their ends to allow for dissipation of heat and are arranged in circumferential rows, defining a chevron pattern, to prevent resultant side thrust imposed upon the running surface.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 1994Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: Altrack LimitedInventor: Alan Robert Burns

Patent number: 5573310Abstract: A ground engaging tire assembly in the form of a wheel for a vehicle, comprising a rim (11) and a plurality of ground engaging elements (13) mounted on the rim. Each ground engaging element (13) comprises a hollow body (31) having an inner face (32) in engagement against the rim and an outer face (33) for contacting the ground. The hollow body (31) also has side faces (34) extending between the inner and outer faces. The side faces (34) are constructed to be resiliently flexible for deflection under normal load conditions thereby to provide cushioning for the vehicle. The ground engaging elements are so positioned on the rim that confronting side faces of neighboring elements provide lateral support for each other when deflecting under load.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1994Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Assignee: Altrack LimitedInventor: Phillip J. Rollinson

Patent number: 5139066Abstract: A non-pneumatic tire (10) comprising an annular body (15) of resilient construction having a radially outer peripheral portion (19) and a radially inner peripheral portion (17). A circumferential web extends between, and is connected to, the radially inner and outer portions. To each side of the circumferential web there is a set of circumferentially spaced ribs (45, 49). Each rib extends between and is connected to the radially inner and outer portions of the tire. Each rib is also connected to the web. A characterizing feature of the tire is that the circumferential web comprises consecutive web sections (53) extending in alternate directions.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1990Date of Patent: August 18, 1992Assignee: Altrack LimitedInventor: Brian Jarman

Patent number: 4953921Abstract: An endless track (27) for tracked vaheicles comprising an endless flexible band (33) and a plurality of spaced elongated tread elements (41) provided on the outer surface of the band. Each tread element (41) is formed of resilient material and extends transversely of the direction of travel of the track. The tread elements (41) are each in the form of a loop having a ground engaging portion and a pair of side wall portions which are load supporting when the loop is in contact with the ground. The tread elements (41) may be formed integral with, or formed separately of and secured to, the endless flexible band (33). A track assembly is also described and claimed.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1987Date of Patent: September 4, 1990Assignee: Altrack LimitedInventor: Alan R. Burns
