  • Patent number: 7754140
Abstract: A method for producing dimensionally accurate metal foam from a foamable, powder metallurgically produced metal semifinished product having a melting point >200° C. involving: the introduction of material, which is capable of foaming above 200 ° C., into a mold which has a coefficient of expansion of less than 3 K?1 Controlled heating of the foamable material inside the mold is performed while radiators foam the material, and the foamed product formed thereby removed from the mold. A device for producing dimensionally accurate thermally foamed metal foam parts that is has a thin-walled mold, which is stable at the melting temperature of the metal foam and which has a coefficient of expansion of <3K?1; a controllable irradiating device, and; a controller that controls the irradiating device based on the measurement given by a radiation measuring device.

  • Publication number: 20090202812
Abstract: A method for producing composite bodies having at least one outer layer of a non-foaming powder and a metal foam layer. In one embodiment, the powder layers are rolled separately from one another, then the rolled parts are put one over the other in a predetermined number of rolled powder layers; optionally, they are rolled together again, and thereafter, the metal foam layer is foamed by heating to produce a layer arrangement. Alternatively, the powder layers are formed one on top of the other to form a layer arrangement that is then rolled prior to foaming.

  • Publication number: 20090165981
Abstract: A process for recycling light metal parts with gas inclusions or non-metallic particles. In order to convert different waste products into high class products in a process-technically simple manner, without requiring cleaning/purifying of the used materials, that from at least one light metal part with gas inclusions and at least one light metal part with largely dense, non-metallic particles, a gas containing metal melt is produced and a metal melt is allowed to solidify at an under-pressure for at least sometime under formation of a light metal foam body.

  • Patent number: 7396380
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a metal foam body, according to which a molten material containing gas is prepared and said molten material is left to solidify, thus forming a metal foam body. The aim of the invention is to produce high-quality metal foam bodies with a desired shape, without requiring complex equipment and whilst reducing the safety risk for the operating personnel. To achieve this, the material used is fused under atmospheric pressure and gas is simultaneously and/or subsequently introduced into the molten metal. The latter is then poured into a mold and is left to solidify, whereby the ambient pressure is reduced at least temporarily.
