    Abstract: A machine tool in which processing can be performed on the workpiece from two directions and in which various types of machining processes other than turning can be performed on the workpiece by means of a turret on which a plurality of tools are mounted. The turret is freely indexible on a tool rest which is mounted on a horizontal guide for horizontal positioning. The horizontal guide is mounted for vertical positioning on a vertical column which is in turn mounted on a horizontal slide member the axis of which is perpendicular to the horizontal guide section supporting the tool rest. A workpiece holder is mounted for free rotation on the frame of the machine tool. The turret may thus be positioned and indexed so as to select one of a variety of processing tools such as a cutting tool, a drill, a milling cutter, or the like, and to perform the processing in either a horizontal or vertical direction.

    Abstract: A method for shearing a plate-like workpiece using a punch press includes providing a punch having two adjacent blades disposed at a specified angle with respect to one another and a die having two blades corresponding to the blades of the punch. The punch and die are adjusted so that one of the blades on one of the punch and die will not mate with the corresponding blade on the other of the punch and die, and the other blade on one of the punch and die will mate with the corresponding blade of the other of the punch and die. The punch and die are brought together to shear the workpiece between the mating, corresponding blades of the punch and die. In one embodiment the blades of the punch are fixed on the base of the punch so as to be fixed with respect to one another. In a second embodiment, the punch is divided into two parts by a sliding surface which bisects the specified angle between the blades of the punch, so that the blades of the punch are longitudinally slidable with respect to one another.

    Abstract: In a thermal cutting machine provided with an NC system of the type having a manual pulse generator allowing the operator to manually adjust the working head height from a workpiece a profile control apparatus is provided to maintain a reference distance between the head and a non-flat workpiece. The profile control apparatus is installed in the cutting machine, by adding only a head distance sensor and a Z-axis controller in parallel with the manual pulse generator via a selector switch. The Z-axis controller generates a pulse signal having a frequency proportional to a differential voltage between a reference head height determined by the NC system and an actual head height detected by the head distance sensor to correct the reference head height from the non-flat workpiece. The V-F conversion characteristics of the Z-axis controller are of Z-type, in particular, to reduce the profile error.

    Abstract: An automatic supply and storage system for machined materials includes; a feed conveyor which aligns and recycles a plurality of machined materials; a delivery conveyor which moves back and forth from the conveying area of the feed conveyor to advance and receive back the machined materials and to convey the machined materials for further processing in a direction transverse to the conveying direction of the feed conveyor; and a storage conveyor having a plurality of buckets which are intermittently recycled to store the machined materials, after further machining, in a prescribed bucket. The buckets have an aperture section which can be opened and closed in both the vertical and sideways directions. The system thus has the capability of feeding the machined materials to a machine tool, and after feeding a specified amount, sending the materials back to the feed conveyor.

The sub-hole of each disk is connected with the respective main hole of the disk by a gas injection channel through which laser gas is injected into the main hole at a plurality of longitudinal positions in the laser tube to provide a homogeneous laser gas velocity distribution in the laser tube.

    Abstract: To crown (deform into a convex state) a die for a press brake (bending press), a number of a pair of upper and lower wedges are arranged between the lower die and the lower table at intervals along the longitudinal direction of the press brake, and simultaneously moved in the lateral direction by an elastic member (plate spring) fitted to each bottom groove formed in the lower wedge. Both free ends of the elastic member is moved by elastic member adjusting means including two sprocket wheels, two tubular nut members, a control motor, etc. To provide a smooth wedge slidable motion, springs are disposed to urge the lower die upward together with a lower die base.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to an input/output fiber coupling device for an optical fiber. The device includes a chamber wall having an opening at one side and a bore at the opposite side. The chamber wall forms a cavity therein. A focusing lens fits within the opening, the lens having input and output laser beam paths aligned with the fiber longitudinal axis, and focuses a laser beam onto the end face of the fiber which is inserted into the cavity through the bore. An index-matching fluid circulates within the cavity between the lens and the fiber end face.

    Abstract: A saw blade such as a bandsaw blade, circular saw blade, or backsaw blade has a leading tooth or teeth which cuts the workpiece and advances in a feed direction while the workpiece is being cut and a plurality of trailing teeth which cut the workpiece later than the leading tooth or teeth and serve to widen the leading cut channel. The leading tooth and the trailing teeth form one group in which the heights of the trailing teeth from a basic position on the saw blade are smaller than the height of the leading tooth. The trailing teeth are set in the right and left directions with respect to the saw blade and the leading tooth is unset with respect to the saw blade. Several embodiments are disclosed in which the saw blade has 3,4,5,6,7,8,9, etc., up to 12 teeth.

    Abstract: A blanking shear machine has a rotatable upper turret having a holder for an upper blade. The upper blade has two contiguous sides which form a right angle therebetween. The turrets are rotated to position the blades to provide the desired cut. Means for actuating the strikers are provided to lower the upper blade to engage the lower blade, shearing the workpiece between the two blades.

    Abstract: A machining control method for an electrical discharge machine compensates for the lagging of the wire electrode as the electrode is advanced from a straight line portion to a change of direction portion of the outline to be machined. The wire electrode is advanced from the straight line portion of the outline until it reaches the change of direction point of the outline and is then halted until the wire electrode lag is corrected. During the halt, machining takes place under a different set of conditions. When the lag is corrected, the wire electrode is advanced along the change of direction portion under a third set of machining conditions. When the wire electrode reaches another straight line portion, the outline machining of the workpiece is resumed under the first set of machining conditions. Also disclosed is a method of controlling the positioning of a workpiece by trial positioning a large number of workpieces having a variety of weights under a variety of load conditions of the control motor.
