Abstract: An ironworker is provided with a powered set of opposed workpiece clamps for accurately locating a workpiece beneath a punch or the like. The preferred form employs a rotary powered, numerically controlled means for moving the clamps.A unique timing-belt drive is provided for moving long workpieces, such as elongated channels or the like, from a rotary powered input.A workpiece clamp is provided with a stationary first workpiece-engaging member and a movable second workpiece-engaging member which is slidable along its longitudinal axis from an extended position where it is closely spaced and aligned above the first workpiece-engaging member to a retracted position where it is moved upwardly away from the first workpiece-engaging member and slid longitudinally rearwardly of the first workpiece-engaging member for lifting or placing a workpiece in position for clamping.
Abstract: A rotary turret, numerically controlled punch press is provided with a discharge station at 90.degree. from a punching station. A part is clamped in the turret, separated from a larger workpiece and then rotated with the turret to the discharge station. A transfer arm having a part clamping mechanism is slaved to the NC punch press, engages the part at an exact attitude and position relative to a reference point on the part and transfers the part to a rotary chuck or part holder. The part is placed in the chuck at an exact attitude and with the reference point at the axis of rotation of the chuck.
Abstract: A band saw is provided with rotary guides for changing the angle of the saw. While the part is rotated and linearly translated toward and away from the saw by the contouring apparatus, the saw cuts a peripheral shape on the part with the blade changing its angular attitude where necessary. An air cushion support holds the edge of the part at the saw blade. After cutting, the contouring turret is rotated another 90.degree. bringing the part to a deburring station. The motion of the part at the deburring and cutting stations is identical for simultaneous cutting and deburring. Next the turret is rotated another 90.degree. and the deburred part is engaged by a second transfer arm to remove the part and locate it for subsequent treatment.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a punching apparatus for perforating sheet metal or the like, comprising a tool holder having a body portion which includes upper and lower arms extending horizontally from the body portion in vertically spaced alignment from one another to form a throat into which sheet material to be punched may be positioned. Each of the upper and lower arms includes a plurality of spaced bores of different diameters, each of which is vertically aligned with a corresponding bore in the opposite arm. The bores in the upper arm are adapted to receive a plurality of punches of different diameters, while the lower bores are adapted to receive a plurality of dies of different diameters for operatively receiving a corresponding punch during a punching operation.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to an indexing feed mechanism for a cutting machine comprising an indexing vise for gripping a workpiece and moving it forward into a cutting position. The mechanism includes a lead screw interengaged with complementary means formed on a stopper means adapted to limit the rearward extent of the stroke of the indexing vise. Rotation of said screw will, therefore, cause translation of said stopper means thereby varying the rearward limit of travel of the indexing vise during its stroke. The lead screw extends from a rotatable shaft and means located at the operating station of the cutting machine are provided for rotating the shaft. The shaft is operably connected to a digital indicator which indicates in digital numerals the predetermined stroke of the indexing vise as a function of the angular position of the shaft.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a construction of a horizontal band sawing machine which is particularly suited for the cutting of materials having at least one web portion and a flange portion, such as L-shaped steel sections. In a horizontal band sawing machine including a housing which is pivotally connected at one end thereof, the construction achieves a structural advantage by involving a plurality of portions where the housing is pivotally connected while a stock vice mechanism is provided to the construction which is capable of holding such a steel material as L-shaped steel not only from the left and right sides thereof, but also from above and below.
Abstract: A pair of turrets of a punch press are rotatably coupled to a common drive shaft by chains and sprockets. Releasable couplers are placed between the chains and the drive shaft to allow relative, limited movement between the turrets and the common drive shaft during the insertion into the turrets of alignment shot pins. The limited relative movement allows the turrets to independently, accurately position during insertion of the shot pins without placing strain on the chains, drive shaft or power source.
