  • Patent number: 4695703
Abstract: An improved flexible blanket heater includes a thin, normally flat flexible blanket of elastic dielectric material having a high modulus of elasticity and defining top and bottom surfaces. An elongate flexible resistance element of an alloy having a lower modulus of elasticity than said dielectric material and positioned within and arranged to extend about and throughout the plane of the blanket. The blanket has welts at its top and bottom surfaces adjacent and coextensive with the element. The welts establish curved compacted element supporting masses about the inside circumference of the element when the blanket is bent and which serve to limit bending of the element to radii at which the modulus of elasticity of the element is not exceeded. The blanket includes flexible fabric reinforcements at its surfaces which prevent free elastic flow and displacement of the dielectric material and assure compacting of that material about the inside circumference of bends at the welts.

  • Patent number: 4287502
Abstract: An elongate, electric resistance heater having a tubular case, a plug in and spaced from one end of the case and elongate, flexible jacketed power lines extending through the plug and axially outward from said end of the case, an elongate, tubular, flexible braided metal sheath about the lines and coupling means coupling said end of the case and the end portion of the sheath adjacent thereto, said coupling means including elongate concentric inner and outer tube parts arranged with said end portion of the sheath held tight therebetween, a radially outwardly projecting flange on one of said parts arranged within said end portion of the case adjacent said plugs and retaining means at said end of the case axially outward of the flange and holding the flange and its related parts and sheath against axial outward displacement in the case and relative to the lines.

  • Patent number: 4184064
Abstract: A water heater including an elongate tubular case, a block and a plug in spaced relationship in the case defining a chamber, an elongate heater tube with a helical portion within the chamber, and defining a central longitudinal opening, means connecting the ends of the tube with water supply and delivery lines, an elongate resistance heater unit extending longitudinally through said tube, an end extending from one end of the tube, a power supply line extending from a power source to the unit and means to control the supply of power from the line to the unit including a temperature sensing device positioned in the opening defined by the coiled tube and operable to stop and start the flow of power to the unit when the temperature of air in said opening is above and below a set temperature.

  • Patent number: 4115686
Abstract: A cartridge heater with improved thermocouple comprising a tubular metal sheath with a front end having a central opening therein, a metal plug engaged in and closing said opening, a filler of dielectric material in the sheath rearward of the plug, a resistance wire within and extending longitudinally of the sheath and supported by said filler, said plug having a pair of circumferentially spaced axially extending and radially outwardly opening grooves, a pair of elongate thermocouple wires supported by the filler within the sheath and having front end portions tightly engaged in and between in said opening and grooves, and an annular weld about the foremost line of contact between said sheath and plug and across the forward ends of said grooves.
