Abstract: A kiosk apparatus, method and system of providing and distributing a plurality of items to one or more consumers is provided. Each kiosk in a plurality of kiosks may be configured to communicate with a kiosk management system to provide inventory data, which is provided to consumers such that one or more requested items may be reserved in a transaction. The kiosk may be further configured to interact with the consumer to retrieve the reserved items, where the consumer may use a portable device to interact with the kiosk, or the consumer may be prompted by the kiosk to enter account information and/or a generated code associated with the transaction provided by the kiosk management system. Then, a payment process is initiated with the kiosk management system or other entity, and when the payment process is verified, release the requested items to the consumer.

Abstract: A method and system of conducting a mobile transaction with a kiosk management system operating a plurality of kiosks for requested items is provided. A consumer may possess a portable device configured to communicate with the kiosk management system such that the kiosk management system may provide requested items to a selected kiosk from the plurality of kiosks. The portable device may operate a mobile application to display a list of available kiosks providing the requested items for the consumer to select a kiosk to reserve the requested items at. The consumer may then use the portable device to interact with the selected kiosk to retrieve the requested items reserved at the selected kiosk.

Abstract: Described are techniques and systems for service discovery on a network. A media device on the network generates a signature indicative of a particular set of one or more services available for execution on the media device. The signature may be distributed on the network using beacon transmissions from the media device. A receiving media device compares the signature with previously stored service data which associates signatures with service sets. The stored service data may include a local signature indicative of a local service set. Determinations of a match result in the receiving media device using the previously stored data. Unmatched signatures may result in the receiving media device sending a request for service set data. The received service set data may then be used to provide service availability information. The received service set data and associated signature may be added to the stored service data.

Abstract: Techniques for providing descriptive information associated with objects may be provided. For example, requests to define an object may be received and monitored. When the number of requests indicates that a definition of the object should be updated, the definition of the object may be obtained and a reference for defining the object may be determined. Information for updating the reference with the definition may be transmitted to one or more associated computing devices.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for client-premise resource control using provider-defined interfaces are described. A set of programmatic interfaces enabling clients to submit registration requests is implemented. A registration request indicates resources located at a data center external to a provider network as candidate targets for control operation requests issued via a different set of programmatic interfaces associated with a service of the provider network. A network connection is established between a particular resource indicated in a registration request, and an administrative resource located within a data center of the provider network. In response to a particular control operation request received via a programmatic interface of the different set, a control command is transmitted from the administrative resource to the particular resource via the network connection.

Abstract: A kiosk management system may identify items with which to pre-stock a plurality of geographically distributed kiosks. The identified items may be delivered from a distribution center to one or more distribution agents, who then deliver the identified items to individual kiosks. When the kiosk management system receives a request for an item from a consumer who has been browsing items in, e.g., an electronic marketplace, the kiosk management system can determine whether the requested item is available at any kiosks in proximity of the consumer and provide a list of such kiosks to the consumer for selection. Following selection of a kiosk by the consumer, the kiosk management system can send the consumer a notification identifying the designated kiosk and including a generated code for use by the consumer in retrieving of the requested item from the designated kiosk.

Abstract: A system includes a rack, computing devices coupled to the rack, a rack PDU, and one or more input power cables. The rack PDU includes an enclosure, two or more power input receptacles on the enclosure, and two or more power output receptacles on the enclosure. The output power receptacles supply power to the computing devices. The input power cables are coupled in one or more of the power input receptacles. The input power cables supply electrical power from an electrical power system to the rack PDU.

Abstract: Described are techniques and systems for providing a user interface which provides information about one or more activities being performed by services available among affiliated devices. The information is based on activity data which may be obtained through a subscription-publication mechanism with the affiliated devices. The user interface may also provide activity controls to modify the one or more activities.

Abstract: An electronic device may be configured to identify configuration information associated with input sequences. In some examples, the configuration information may enable an association between the input sequences and operations capable of being performed by the electronic device. Additionally, in some aspects, the electronic device may be configured to receive biometric inputs and determine an operation to be performed based at least in part on the received biometric inputs and the association. Further, the electronic device may enable performance of the determined operation.

Abstract: An electrowetting element includes a first fluid and a second fluid immiscible with the first fluid, as well as a surface, wherein display effects depend on an extent that the first and second fluids adjoin the surface, in dependence on applied voltage. Operation includes receiving data representing a first display effect for display; receiving data representing a subsequent display effect for display after display of the first display effect; comparing data representing the first display effect with data representing said subsequent display effect to determine a difference indicative of a change of the extent the second fluid adjoins the surface between display of the first display effect and display of the subsequent display effect; and depending on said difference, selectively outputting data for driving the electrowetting element to display a different display effect, instead of the subsequent display effect, consecutively after displaying the first display effect.

Abstract: In automated speech recognition (ASR), multiple devices may be employed to perform the ASR in a distributed environment. To reduce bandwidth use in transmitting between devices ASR information is compressed prior to transmission. To counteract fidelity loss that may accompany such compression, two versions of an audio signal are processed by an acoustic front end (AFE), one version is unaltered and one is compressed and decompressed prior to AFE processing. The two versions are compared, and the comparison data is sent to a recipient for further ASR processing. The recipient uses the comparison data and a received version of the compressed audio signal to recreate the post-AFE processing results from the received audio signal. The result is improved ASR results and decreased bandwidth usage between distributed ASR devices.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for context-aware durability of variants of files. A first data store is associated with a first level of data durability, and a second data store is associated with a second level of data durability that is lower than the first level of data durability. A data object is stored in the second data store when the data object is a derivative of another data object stored in the first data store. A data object is stored in the first data store when the data object is not a derivative of another data object stored in the first data store.

Abstract: Techniques are described for facilitating sharing and reuse of executable software images between multiple execution environments. In at least some situations, the executable software images are virtual machine images (e.g., images that are bootable or otherwise loadable by a virtual machine in a particular virtualization environment, and that each include operating system software and/or software for one or more application programs, optionally along with one or more hard disks or other representations of stored data). The described techniques may include use of an image conversion tool that is configured to support interactions with multiple distinct types of source execution environments to extract executable software images from those environments, and to modify extracted software images for execution in one or more distinct types of destination execution environments, optionally as directed by one or more users via a GUI provided by the image conversion tool.

Abstract: A method for providing text to speech from digital content in an electronic device is described. Digital content including a plurality of words and a pronunciation database is received. Pronunciation instructions are determined for the word using the digital content. Audio or speech is played for the word using the pronunciation instructions. As a result, the method provides text to speech on the electronic device based on the digital content.

Abstract: The techniques described herein provide software testing of a candidate version of software. In some examples, an interceptor intercepts at least one production request to a production version of the software and issues the production request to a shadow proxy service as a shadow request. The shadow proxy service causes the at least one shadow request to be processed by the candidate version of the software being validated and an authority version of the software being used to validate the candidate version. The shadow proxy service may then compare and/or analyze at least one candidate response to the shadow request from the candidate version and at least one authority response to the shadow request from the authority version. A dashboard service may provide at least some of the resulting information and issue a request the shadow proxy service to replay at least one of the shadow requests.

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for caching of a hierarchical model of a network site. Upon receiving a request to resolve a network site, a hierarchical site model associated with a network site is retrieved. A directory model associated with the network site is also retrieved. A caching process is initiated that retrieves at least a subset of page models and loads them into a cache. The caching process is executed in parallel with the processing of the hierarchical site model.

Abstract: An asset health monitoring system (AHMS) can assign a confidence indicator to some or all the monitored computing asset in a data center, such as computing systems or networking devices. In response to drops in the confidence indicators, the AHMS can automatically initiate testing of computing assets in order to raise confidence that the asset will perform correctly. Further, the AHMS can automatically initiate remediation procedures for computing assets that fail the confidence testing. By automatically triggering testing of assets and/or remediation procedures, the AHMS can increase reliability for the data center by preemptively identifying problems.

Abstract: A user device obtains motion data from an inertial sensor included in the user device. The user device receives a command to transmit information at a specified transmit power level. The user device determines, based on the motion data, whether the presence of a human body part is detected. When the presence of a human body part is detected, the user device reduces a current transmit power level below the specified transmit power level.

Abstract: A user attempting to obtain information about an object can capture image information including a view of that object, and the image information can be used with a matching or identification process to provide information about that type of object to the user. Information about the orientation of the camera and/or device used to capture the image can be provided in order to limit an initial search space for the matching or identification process. In some embodiments, images can be selected for matching based at least in part upon having a view matching the orientation of the camera or device. In other embodiments, images of objects corresponding to the orientation can be selected. Such a process can increase the average speed and efficiency in locating matching images. If a match cannot be found in the initial space, images of other views and categories can be analyzed as well.

Abstract: A transflective display apparatus includes a first electrode and a second electrode, which face each other and are separated from one another by a pixel electrode.
