  • Patent number: 8756325
Abstract: A system and method for management and processing of resource requests is provided. A content delivery network service provider determines a class associated with a set of client computing devices and monitors resources requests for the determined class. The content delivery network service provider then identifies at least one cache component for providing additional content, such as advertisement content or other additional content provided in anticipation of future resource requests, to client computing devices as a function of the determined class. In other embodiments, instead of cache components, the content delivery network service provider identifies a second set of client computing devices as a function of the determined class for providing the additional content information.

  • Patent number: 8756341
Abstract: A system, method and computer-readable medium for request routing based on content popularity information are provided. A client computing device transmits a first DNS query to a content delivery network service provider. The content delivery network service provider transmits an alternative resource identifier in response to the client computing device DNS query. The alternative resource identifier is selected as a function of popularity information pertaining to the requested resource. The client computing device then transmits a second DNS query to the content delivery network service provider. The content delivery network service provider can then either resolve the second DNS query with an IP address of a cache component or transmit another alternative resource identifier that will resolve to the content delivery network service provider. The process can repeat until a DNS nameserver resolves a DNS query from the client computing device.

  • Patent number: 8756232
Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for a documentation system. Documentation topics for publishing in a node are received from a client. Embodiments of the disclosure determine whether the documentation topic has been assigned a topic identifier. Topic identifiers are assigned if the documentation topic has not been assigned a topic identifier and the documentation topic is assigned to at least one node in the documentation system. The documentation topics are stored in a data store and the topic identifiers are transmitted to the client. The topics are then published in at least one node of the documentation system.

  • Patent number: 8756272
Abstract: A system and method for the management of client computing device content requests by service providers are provided. The requested content corresponds to content organized as a series of ordered frames, which include a number of reference frames. The management of the content requests can include the selection of computing devices corresponding to various Point of Presence locations for providing requested content. The selection of the computing devices can incorporate logic related to the delivery of a first subset of the content from a Point of Presence based on minimizing delivery latencies. The selection of the computing devices can incorporate logic related to the delivery of a second subset of the content from a second Point of Presence based on minimizing costs associated with delivery of the second subset.

  • Patent number: 8751507
Abstract: A recommendations system is provided in various embodiments for selecting items to recommend to a user. The system includes a recommendation engine with a plurality of recommenders, and each recommender identifies a different type of reason for recommending items. In one embodiment, each recommender retrieves item preference data and generates candidate recommendations responsive to a subset of that data. The recommenders also score the candidate recommendations. In certain embodiments, a normalization engine normalizes the scores of the candidate recommendations provided by each recommender. A candidate selector selects at least a portion of the candidate recommendations based on the normalized scores to provide as recommendations to the user. The candidate selector also outputs the recommendations with associated reasons for recommending the items.

  • Patent number: 8751327
Abstract: The following disclosure relates generally to techniques for generating useful content based on user interactions, such as by enabling users to submit questions to and otherwise interact with an answer-providing service. In some situations, one or more interfaces are provided to allow users to specify a variety of types of questions for the answer-providing service, such as via a GUI and/or using a messaging interface based on email or other types of electronic messages. When communications occur via electronic messages, the answer-providing service may in some situations generate and include unique tracking identifiers in electronic messages sent to users, so that the users can reply back to the messages in order to provide a command to the answer-providing service that includes a tracking identifier previously sent to the user and thus verify that the command is sent by someone with access to the electronic messages of the user.

  • Patent number: 8751691
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for remapping IP addresses of a network to endpoints within a different network. A provider network may allocate IP addresses and resources to a customer. The provider network may allow the customer to map an IP address to remap an IP address to an endpoint on the customer's network. When a packet is received from a client addressed to the IP address, the provider network may determine that the IP address has been remapped to the endpoint. The provider network may translate the source and destination addresses of the packet and modify the source address of the packet to indicate the endpoint as the destination, and send the modified packet to the endpoint via the Internetan intermediate network. Response traffic may be routed to the client through the provider network, or may be directly routed to the client by the customer network.
