Patents Assigned to Amerchol Corporation
  • Patent number: 5856150
Abstract: Processes are disclosed for the selective hydrolysis of saturated esters, e.g., ethyl propionate, over unsaturated esters, e.g., ethyl acrylate, using enzymes, e.g., lipases. The processes are useful, for example, for removing undesired esters from monomer feeds used in latex polymerization and from the latexes after polymerization. The processes can be used, for example, to treat latexes used in hair fixative compositions to remove unpleasant odors.

  • Patent number: 5811129
Abstract: Hydroxylated milk glycerides having low levels of ethylenic unsaturation are disclosed. The hydroxylated milk glycerides can have enhanced resistance to rancidification and as such, are suitable for use in personal care compositions e.g., lotions, skin creams, lipsticks, eye shadow, and makeup. Personal care compositions comprising the hydroxylated milk glycerides can have enhanced properties as compared to personal care compositions which do not comprise the hydroxylated milk glycerides or alternatively comprise milk fat.

  • Patent number: 5621088
Abstract: Processes for the preparation of polyglucosamine derivatives, e.g., hydroxypropyl chitosan and carboxymethyl chitosan, are disclosed. The polyglucosamine derivatives can be prepared in a covalently bonded form using a dilute caustic medium. Strong bases and undesirable water-immiscible organic solvents can be avoided. The covalently bonded derivatives dissolve into the dilute caustic medium upon formation. Compositions containing the derivatives and uses for the derivatives are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5597811
Abstract: Polyglucosamine derivatives, e.g., chitosan, substituted with oxirane carboxylic acids, e.g., epoxysuccinic acid, are disclosed. The polyglucosamine derivatives can be prepared in a covalently bonded or ionically bonded form. Methods for preparing the polyglucosamine derivatives are disclosed as well as compositions containing the derivatives and uses for the derivatives.

  • Patent number: 5589157
Abstract: Aqueous acrylic polymer compositions comprising a copolymer of an alkyl acrylate, an alkyl methacrylate and one or more acrylate acids or salts thereof are disclosed. By introducing an alkoxylated surfactant having a surface tension of greater than about 32.2 dynes/cm and less than 48.2 dynes/cm, enhanced freeze-thaw stability can be obtained with the polymer compositions of the present invention. The polymer compositions are compatible in all-aqueous hairspray compositions, as well as those which contain up to about 80 weight percent volatile organic compounds, or more.

  • Patent number: 5413775
Abstract: Aqueous, anionic, acrylic polymer compositions comprising a copolymer of an alkyl acrylate, an alkyl methacrylate and one or more acrylate acids or salts thereof is disclosed. By controlling the particle size of the copolymer and introducing a surfactant, enhanced freeze-thaw stability can be obtained with the polymer compositions of the present invention. The polymer compositions are compatible in all-aqueous hairspray compositions, as well as those which contain up to about 80 weight percent volatile organic compounds, or more.

  • Patent number: 4687843
Abstract: An esterified propoxylated methyl glucoside composition is prepared by reacting a propoxylated methyl glucoside with a fatty acid at an elevated temperature in the presence of an acid catalyst. The esterified propoxylated methyl glucoside compositions find use as skin moisturizers and emollients which are especially suitable in skin care formulations.

  • Patent number: 4324703
Abstract: Colognes, toilet waters, after-bath splashes and other fragranced compositions are given improved fragrance fixation by the addition of methyl glucoside polyols. When these essentially odorless polyols are added to such compositions in amounts from about 0.5% to about 5% by weight based on the total alcoholic, aqueous or hydroalcoholic content of said compositions, lasting power and intensity of the fragrance are improved and alcohol solvent pungency is reduced. The improvement in fragrance intensity also allows the fragrance formulator to reduce the quantity of fragrance oil in a given composition. Virtually any fragrance formulation can be improved in accordance with the present invention.
