Abstract: A non-toxic antimicrobial boundary lubricant comprises a major portion of a base oil composed either separately or in various combinations of animal, vegetable and/or petroleum oils and a minor portion of an extreme pressure additive; an antioxidant; and an antimicrobial compound. The lubricant has a pH of 7.40 (.+-.0.15 pH units) and preferably contains chlorhexidine gluconate as an antimicrobial compound.
