Patents Assigned to American Express Company
  • Publication number: 20020123960
Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products take into account the amount, term, and type of consumer loan, as well as data relating to a customer's credit score, debt burden, and collateral, if any. The invention then calculates an expected probability of default for a loan to that customer, and calculate loan terms that will deliver a minimum return on equity (e.g., 18%) given the lender's capital structure and funding rates. These loan terms are then offered to the customer. The customized loan terms include annual percentage rate of the loan, or a yearly fee or loan amount.

  • Patent number: 5412192
Abstract: A system for changing the activation status of a selected data card such as a charge card by broadcasting an appropriate RF signal. An antenna embedded in the card detects and decodes the signal, and operates a transducer which changes the card appearance, alters magnetic stripe information, or alters the information contained within the card.

  • Patent number: 4796292
Abstract: A credit card authorization network which, among other advantages, allows telephone charges to be reduced. A credit card company, operating as an Interexchange Customer, provides trunk-protocol executing modems at a Feature Group B access facility. The modems are interfaced to the trunks, on a T1 digital link, by adapting FXS channel bank cards with a ground start option to translate between E&M signaling and ground start loop signaling.

  • Patent number: 4453074
Abstract: There is disclosed a protection system for intelligent cards. Each card has stored in it a code which is the encryption of a concatenation of a user secret password and a common reference text. The encryption is derived by an initialization terminal which uses the private key associated with the public key of a public-key cryptosystem key pair. Each transaction terminal with which a card is used decrypts the stored code in accordance with the public key. A transaction is effected only if the stored code decrypts into the user password which is inputted on a keyboard and the common reference text.

  • Patent number: 4065862
Abstract: Method and apparatus for synchronizing data signals with clock pulses in a data transmission computer system having a computer for generating data signals and a local data set for transmitting the data signals to a remotely located data set, includes a receiving register for storing the data signals and a transmitting register coupled to the output of the receiving register for receiving and storing data signals from the receiving register. Logic circuits respond to clock signals from the local data set to cause the data signals to be transferred from the receiving register to the transmitting register and from there to the local data set. The clock pulses from the local data set are synchronized with the data signals as they are stored in the receiving register, the data signals being transferred from the transmitting register to the local data set under the control of the logic circuits in synchronism with the clock signals from the local data set.
