Patent number: 5712546Abstract: A control system is provided for a door positioning assembly having a door mounted on a track. The door is movable between an open position and a closed position. The door has a leading edge adjacent a door opening, an edge arranged to define a second opening, and a pass door pivotably coupled to the second opening. The control system includes a proximity detector for providing a door position signal in response to the position of the door on the track system, and a user input for providing user input signals including open inputs, stop inputs including signals provided by a stop button of a user-operated switch, and close inputs in response to user commands. The system also includes a plurality of sensors for providing stop input signals in response to the position of an object located within a detection zone adjacent the door opening, in response to contact between an object and the leading edge of the door, and in response to the position of the pass door.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 1995Date of Patent: January 27, 1998Assignee: American Metal Door Company, Inc.Inventors: Jeffery A. Patent number: 5377448Abstract: A door positioning mechanism with a moveable carriage driven by a motor through a lead screw, wherein the moveable carriage is connected to open and close the door by movement of the door rectilinearly along a track through the expedient of a drive train utilizing a multiple sheave and cable connection between the door and the moveable carriage. A hand disconnect is provided to disable the positioning mechanism and allow manual movement of the door. A thermal (fire switch) dead weight control is also provided to over-ride the positioning mechanism and automatically shut the door.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1993Date of Patent: January 3, 1995Assignee: American Metal Door Company, Inc.Inventors: Douglas E. Patent number: 4716702Abstract: A system for connecting panels in adjacent edge-to-edge relationship comprises plates mounted to the edge of each panel providing a series of spaced-apart protuberances along each panel edge. Each protuberance includes an opening normal to the edges of the panels. A channel connector has a web which is interposed between the panel edges and includes a plurality of windows providing gateways through the web for the protuberances when the panels are placed in adjacent edge-to-edge relationship. Each window includes a downwardly extending tongue which is inserted into the opening corresponding to the protuberance in each window to interlock the two panels.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1984Date of Patent: January 5, 1988Assignee: American Metal Door Company, Inc.Inventor: J. Patent number: 4467562Abstract: A fire door assembly for automatically closing an opening in a wall in response to a predetermined condition has two or more door panels, a connection system for connecting a side edge of one of the door panels to an adjacent side edge of the other door panel in an edge-to-edge relationship, and flame break barriers interposed between the side edges of the panels and the connection system to provide a flame-resistant barrier between the core of each panel and the connection system. Tie bars are secured to the top and bottom edges of the panels to reinforce the edge-to-edge connection. A support system for the door has a track that is free from all external interference to allow free passage of suitably configured rollers.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1982Date of Patent: August 28, 1984Assignee: American Metal Door Company, Inc.Inventor: Gene A. Patent number: 4461120Abstract: A door for selectively covering an opening in a wall has at least one primary door panel movable to substantially cover the wall opening. The door panel has a rear surface facing the wall, an opposing front surface and a pass opening to permit passage therethrough. A frame borders the pass opening and includes a lock jamb having an offset door stop and a complimentary hinge jamb. A pass door for substantially covering the pass opening has a rear surface, a front surface, a first side edge and a second side edge. The first side edge of the pass door is hinged to the hinge jamb to permit the pass door to swing between an open position and a closed position against the offset door stop of the lock jamb. A pin for limiting lateral movement of the second side edge of the closed pass door relative to the lock jamb, has a proximal portion fixed to the offset door stop and a distal portion substantially perpendicular to the offset door stop for engaging the pass door when the pass door is in its closed position.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1983Date of Patent: July 24, 1984Assignee: American Metal Door Company, Inc.Inventor: Gene A.
