Patent number: 11116210Abstract: Health concerns of the vector-borne diseases, such as, yellow fever, malaria, dengue fever and general discomfort due to insect bites, has encouraged the development of insecticides to kill insects and insect repellents to keep insects away from treated human skin. Annatto extracts as a natural insect repellent and insecticide have many advantages over synthetic such as lower harmful side effects, low resistance, and more environmentally friendly. Annatto extracts containing ishwarane (C15) and geranyl-?-terpinene (C20) have strong mosquito repellency. Annatto extracts containing geranyl-?-terpinene (C20) and geranylgeraniol (C20) have strong larvicidal activity. Annatto extracts with approximately equal C15 and C20 composition have insect repellency, and annatto extracts with mainly C20 composition have larvicidal activity. Annatto extracts have synergistic effects with other natural extracts.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2018Date of Patent: September 14, 2021Assignee: AMERICAN RIVER NUTRITION, LLCInventors: Barrie Tan, Jia Zhang

Patent number: 10894021Abstract: A dietary supplement composition provided synergistic effects of xanthorrhizol and tocotrienol on malignancies. A blend of xanthorrhizol and delta tocotrienol achieved 69% growth suppression of melanoma, exceeding the sum of individual effects. In prostate cancer, 90% growth suppression was achieved by a blend of xanthorrhizol and delta tocotrienol; however, the same 90% of growth suppression was achieved by 3-fold xanthorrhizol and 1.8-fold delta tocotrienol respectively, which indicated synergistic impact of the two agents. Mechanisms of action for the anticancer property showed synergism of xanthorrhizol and tocotrienol-mediated cancer growth suppression was attributed to cell cycle arrest, at the G1 phase of cell cycle, and apoptosis. This novel dietary supplement combination of xanthorrhizol to tocotrienol (1:1 to 10:1) may provide benefits to individuals consuming it on a regular or periodic basis.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2018Date of Patent: January 19, 2021Assignee: AMERICAN RIVER NUTRITION, LLCInventors: Darren Heiy-Yin Chan, Chappell Rebecca Madhani, Manal Elfakhani, Sophie Thora Yount, Huanbiao Mo, Barrie Tan

Patent number: 9949938Abstract: CoQ10 and vitamin E are both lipid-soluble nutrients with redox potential. Tocopherol and/or tocotrienol protect CoQ10 from oxidative damage and reduce ubiquinone in situ. Specifically, vitamin E protects the oxidation of ubiquinol to ubiquinone ex vivo and reduces ubiquinone to ubiquinol in situ. Vitamin Es with higher ratio of tocotrienol-to-tocopherol cause a higher ratio of ubiquinol-to-ubiquinone. Additionally tocopherol and/or tocotrienol protect vitamin A oxidation from retinol to retinoic acid.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2016Date of Patent: April 24, 2018Assignee: AMERICAN RIVER NUTRITIONInventor: Barrie Tan

Patent number: 8293290Abstract: Annatto extract composition (AEC), including cis and trans geranyl geraniols (GG) and tocopherol-free C-5 unsubstituted tocotrienols (T3), increases the de novo synthesis of intermediate isoprenoid and distal protein products, including endogenous coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), dolichols (DL) and all subsequent GG-prenylated and DL-glycosylated proteins, including GG-porphyrinated hemes. This intermediate and distal product replenishment by AEC reverses maladies of myotoxicity (of both drug and non-drug origins), including maladies that affect the muscle, kidney, eye, GI tract and skin, nerve, blood, and CoQ10-related syndromes of energetics and LDL protection. AEC anabolically increases the endogenous de novo CoQ10 synthesis via GG elongation/prenylation of side-chain and conversely CoQ10 catabolically increases the endogenous de novo GG synthesis via beta-oxidation of CoQ10. Also, such AEC decreases de novo synthesis and increases disposal of triglycerides (TG) in humans via PPAR activation and SREBP deactivation.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2011Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: American River Nutrition, Inc.Inventor: Barrie Tan
