Patents Assigned to American Safety Razor Company
  • Patent number: 5628759
Abstract: A flexible surgical razor for removing organic tissue, such as lesions, moles, corns and the like, at or below the skin's surface. The surgical razor utilizes a flexible blade with a well-honed front edge and left and right gripping extensions formed attached to the left and right side edges of the blade, respectively. Each gripping extension includes an inner segment extending in the same plane as the blade, a middle segment extending at an upward angle away from the plane of the blade, and an exterior segment, with exterior gripping edges, extending at an intersecting angle with the middle segment. The front and rear edges of the gripping extensions run parallel to the front and rear edges of the blade. A flexible sheath is added to regulate the shape and extent of the blade's curvature. The user applies inward finger pressure to both gripping extensions simultaneously which bends the flexible blade in a curved fashion.

  • Patent number: 5590468
Abstract: A movable blade cartridge including a platform member having a blade seat and a guard member. The guard member is located of forward and parallel to the blade seat so as to form a longitudinal slot between the blade seat and the guard member. A primary blade which is disposed on the blade seat such that the cutting edge of the blade is located rearwardly of the guard member. A substantial portion of the primary blade extends into the slot formed between the guard member and the blade seat such that the blade is flexible into the slot. The guard member further comprises a plurality of upwardly extending protrusions which function as a conditioning bar and engage the shaving surface prior to the shaving process. A spacer is located on the upper surface of the primary blade.

Both the primary and secondary blade are manufactured and mounted so as to be flexible in response to forces encountered during the shaving operation. The blade cartridge also includes a cap member disposed on the secondary blade which prevents upward movement of the second blade and end clips which are secured to the blade cartridge so as to cover the outer edges of the primary and secondary blades.

  • Patent number: 5517760
Abstract: A spacer for maintaining separation between a first and a second blade in a razor blade cartridge, both the first and second blades having a forward cutting edge. The spacer includes a member forming an upper and lower surface having a plurality of holes extending therethrough, and a protrusion disposed around each opening on the upper surface of the member so as to form channels between one another. The spacer further includes an arcuate shaped skin engaging portion disposed on a forward edge of the member such that the arcuate shaped skin engaging portion intersects the plane formed by the cutting edge of the first and second blade.

  • Patent number: 5417704
Abstract: A scalpel including an elongated handle having an engaging surface located on the handle, a blade carried by the handle adjacent one end thereof and a guard movably mounted to the handle for sliding movement relative to the handle between a protective position covering the blade and a retracted position exposing the blade for use. The guard includes side members extending downwardly from an upper surface. The side members are positioned adjacent opposite sides of the handle and the resiliency of the guard forces the inner surfaces of the side members into engagement with the engaging surface of the handle. The guard is movably along the engaging surface in response to sliding movement of the guard relative to the handle. In a further form, the guard is slidable into a permanently locked position relative to the handle, thereby preventing reuse of the scalpel and inadvertent exposure of the blade.

  • Patent number: 5347714
Abstract: A razor head comprises a body portion defining a guard and a cap, and a blade assembly having a blade disposed therein. The blade assembly is mounted by a first and second mounting member to the body portion in relation to the guard and cap in a manner to comprise a four-bar linkage. The body portion defines a stationary member of the four-bar linkage. The first and second mounting members each have one end connected to the body portion in a manner to define rotational members of the four-bar linkage about a separate axis of rotation for each of the first and second mounting members. The blade assembly is connected to the other end of the first and second mounting members to define a movable four-bar member responsive to rotational movement of the first and second mounting members so that shaving forces acting upon the blade assembly cause the blade assembly to move relative to the body portion.

  • Patent number: 5299357
Abstract: The scalpel includes a handle mounting a scalpel blade at one end and having a slot opening through and between its opposite sides. A guard, including two side members straddling the handle, is mounted for sliding movement between a protective position overlying the blade and a retracted position exposing the blade for use. The side members are connected by an element extending through the handle slot and one or more resilient fingers in the slot cooperates with the element to detent the guard in one of the positions. In a further form, the guard is slidable into a permanently locked position relative to the handle, thereby preventing reuse of the scalpel and inadvertent exposure of the blade.

  • Patent number: 5016353
Abstract: A suture cutter of the chopper type uniquely adapted to permit using the blade portion as a probe to be inserted between the skin and a suture, with an opposed anvil portion not necessarily adapted to be used as a probe being brought in contact with the suture, thus capturing and severing it the suture between blade and anvil. Using the blade instead of the anvil as the probe permits design of an anvil which optimally serves its desired function.

  • Patent number: 4996772
Abstract: A shield overlies a razor head having a lubrication strip disposed behind the cutting edges of the blades disposed on the head. The shield is spaced from the head to facilitate drying the strip and hence reduce swelling or enlargement of the lubrication strip due to moisture absorption following shaving. The shield also has a plurality of openings through its base to facilitate circulation of air in the space between the shield and the head whereby drying of the lubrication strip and, hence, reduction of its enlargement are further accomplished.
