Patent number: 5580406Abstract: A flexible liner is formed from a resilient material and includes a back side surface having a number of ribs that project outwardly a distance away from the liner. The ribs each have an enlarged profile configured to provide a strong mechanical lock with an intermediate adhesion layer or carrier that is applied to a surface portion of the underlying substrate needing surfacing or rehabilitation. The liner is installed to surface or rehabilitate a structure by applying a thickness of the carrier to the wall section of the underlying substrate, positioning a back side surface of the liner adjacent the carrier, pressing the liner against the carrier so that the ribs are inserted and completely covered by the carrier, and forming a mechanical lock between the ribs and the carrier. The carrier is formed from a resinous material that has good adhesion properties and that displays good chemical and/or corrosion resistance when cured.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1994Date of Patent: December 3, 1996Assignee: Ameron, Inc.Inventor: Robert J. Patent number: 5529668Abstract: This method and apparatus detects the potential for corrosion of pipes fabricated out of conductive material embedded in non-conductive material, due to contact between a conductive medium foreign to the pipe and the conductive material embedded within the pipe wall. The electric potential between the foreign medium and the pipe conductive material is determined. The stability of the potential is then ascertained. If the potential does not vary beyond a predetermined range over a period of time, the potential is deemed stable and is indicative of contact between the foreign medium and the conductive material within the pipe, fostering corrosion. An unstable voltage indicates lack of electrical contact.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1994Date of Patent: June 25, 1996Assignee: Ameron, Inc.Inventor: Sylvia C. Hall

Patent number: 5520422Abstract: A pipe joint for fiber reinforced composite pipe has internal and external matching tapers with a low taper angle. A half round helical groove is formed in each of the internal and external tapers for receiving several turns of a ductile key. Deformation of the key in shear redistributes longitudinal loads along the length of the pipe joint. The outer member of the pipe joint has a high stiffness so that internal pressure in the pipe presses the tapered surfaces together so that the resulting friction enhances the longitudinal load carrying capability of the joint. High external stiffness may be provided by winding the external moiety of the joint with high modulus of elasticity fiber. The pipe joint is sealed by introducing a liquid ductile thermosetting sealant between O-rings at the inner end of the joint. The seal can be nondestructively tested and deployed under water before the sealant cures.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1994Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: Ameron, Inc.Inventors: Ralph Friedrich, Ming Kuo, Kevin Smyth

Patent number: 5427474Abstract: A double containment piping system for securing a primary pipeline in position within and enabling pressure testing of a surrounding secondary pipeline which interconnects two or more sump chambers. Centralization seals are affixed to the interior surface of opposite ends of the secondary pipeline and to an adjacent exterior surface of the primary pipeline to form an airtight wall and seal the space between these surfaces. An air insertion fitting allows pressure testing of the sealed spaces between the primary and secondary pipelines. Air bridge hoses can interconnect air insertion fittings within a sump chamber to permit simultaneous pressure testing of more than one secondary pipeline in the secondary pipeline system. The seals further provide a centralization function to limit the radial movement of a primary pipeline within a secondary pipeline to reduce the risk of impact damage caused by pressure spikes in the primary pipeline system.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1993Date of Patent: June 27, 1995Assignee: Ameron, Inc.Inventor: Terrel W. Patent number: 4703940Abstract: A joint sleeve for sealing the ends of adjacent pipe sections. Each pipe section end has a compressible sealing gasket encircling it proximate its end and a shoulder remote its end. The joint sleeve consists of a body able to encircle the pipe section ends and to compress the sealing gaskets so that an adequate seal is provided when the sleeve is disposed about adjacent pipe section ends. To resist the force imposed upon the sleeve by the rolled gasket which tends to urge the sleeve from the pipe end, the joint sleeve has an inner surface with a flared portion. When the sleeve is positioned on one pipe section end for storage and transport, the compressed gasket by virtue of the flared portion produces an axial force urging the joint sleeve body in a direction opposite the force imposed by the rolled gasket and against the shoulder to hold the sleeve on the one pipe section end.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1986Date of Patent: November 3, 1987Assignee: Ameron, Inc.Inventor: William R.
