Patent number: 5119702Abstract: A brake lathe for drum and disc rotor brakes for grinding the inside cylindrical surface of a brake drum and machining the opposite parallel surfaces of a disc rotor. The lathe includes rotating spindle output shaft extending along an axis of the lathe housing. The spindle is driven by a motor which translates an endless belt over a V-belt pulley. A pair of cog belts respectively connect an intermediate pulley to the V-belt pulley and a taper lock bushing mounted on the spindle shaft. This arrangement reduces the motor speed to the desired spindle output speed and eliminates the need for an idler shaft. A first cross-feed slide is mounted in a direction transverse to the axis of the brake housing on a first side thereof for advancing the inboard and outboard cutters toward and away from the opposite parallel surfaces of a disc rotor concentrically mounted on the output shaft.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1988Date of Patent: June 9, 1992Assignee: Ammco Tools Inc.Inventors: Leo C. Bogaerts, John W. Murphy, John S. Norman

Patent number: 4867021Abstract: A boring bar assembly having a symmetrical carbide tip holder for turning a brake drum and which can be rotated 180 degrees for facing either or both sides of a rotor of a disc brake. A hexagonal bar provides a housing for receiving a depth of cut mechanism including a dial at one end of the bar. A movable dial rod is connected to the dial mechanism and extends through the housing and engages a tool bit holder at the other end of the bar. A carbide tip is positioned and clamped in one of two undercut pockets on opposite sides of the flat head of the bit holder. The holder includes an angular surface engaging the dial rod so that the holder is moved toward and away from the axis of the housing in response to the dial rod. A spring-loaded tool retractor is provided in a bore of the housing and includes an angular end surface which is yieldably urged against a portion of the angular surface of the holder.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1987Date of Patent: September 19, 1989Assignee: Ammco Tools, Inc.Inventors: Leo C. Patent number: 4854199Abstract: An improved portable brake disc resurfacing tool of the type which is mountable on an automobile wheel hub assembly for resurfacing brake discs without removing the disc from the automobile wheel assembly includes a generally rectangular framework having at its right hand side a frame mounting assembly including opposed arms vertically slidable on the frame and means for maintaining those arms in symmetrical positioning with respect to the frame and with respect to the brake caliper mounting assembly on which the resurfacing tool is to be mounted. The arms are also reversible in their mountings to provide added adjustability of the mounting system for varying brake disc caliper mounting members. The portable brake lathe further includes a tool mounting carriage which is slidingly retained on the framework and provides an adjustable mounting for tool holders which in turn each mount a triangular 12 point removable cutting tool thereon.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1988Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Ammco Tools, Inc.Inventor: John S. Patent number: 4804029Abstract: A bead seating system which comprises a wheel and tire support having a small diameter central hub, a plurality of widely spaced radial clamp carrying support arms, a single, elongated air nozzle located below and in proximity to the support and a noise reduction housing enclosing the nozzle. The orifice of the nozzle is elongate in the horizontal direction and directs a flat, trapezoidal stream of air through an opening in the noise reduction housing and the space between two of the radial support arms into the area between the bead of the tire and the rim of a wheel resting on the support. The nozzle is angularly oriented relative to the horizontal so that for all rim sizes the air stream is directed either into the space between the rim and the bead or in a direction nearly tangential to the outer wall of the tire. Accordingly, the air flows along the side wall of the tire in a laminar manner into the tire.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1987Date of Patent: February 14, 1989Assignee: Ammco Tools, Inc.Inventor: Richard Glogovsky

Patent number: 4711325Abstract: A wheel chock assembly for preventing movement of a wheel relative to the surface on which it is resting includes a pair of wedge members positionable in spaced apart relation one to another and interconnected by a bar. At one end, the bar is slidingly received by aperture means provided in a first wedge member, and at its other end it is fixedly attached to the second wedge member. A tab having an aperture is slidingly received by the bar and is disposed adjacent the first wedge member. Abutment of a portion of the tab against the first wedge member causes pivoting movement of the tab and locking engagement between an edge of the tab aperture and the bar, thereby preventing relative outward movement of the two wedge members.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1986Date of Patent: December 8, 1987Assignee: Ammco Tools, Inc.Inventor: Craig E. Mountz

Patent number: 4656899Abstract: Opposite ends of a silencer band having a plurality of weights attached thereto are coupled together by selective engagement of a clip member and one of the silencer band weights. To effect such engagement, the clip member comprises a connection portion including a pair of first leg members and an interconnecting first bight portion which together define a loop. Instead of being riveted to the silencer band, the clip member is also fixedly attached to another one of the silencer band weights by an attachment portion. The attachment portion includes second and third leg members each extending from one of the end portions of the first leg members and arranged in predetermined spaced apart parallel relation one to another. A fourth leg member reversely depends from the third leg member and defines a second bight portion.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1986Date of Patent: April 14, 1987Assignee: Ammco Tools, Inc.Inventor: Peter Contoyonis

Patent number: 4643055Abstract: A spindle assembly for a metal working lathe includes a generally cylindrical spindle body having a forward end and a rearward end and an internal bore extending longitudinally thereof. An arbor having a forward end connectable to a workpiece is insertable into the bore of the spindle body and has a rearward end provided with a first annular tapered surface. A second annular tapered surface is formed on the arbor at an intermediate position between the forward and rearward ends thereof. The forward end of the spindle body is formed with an interior annular tapered surface configured to seat against the second annular tapered surface of the arbor. A collar member is slidingly insertable within the bore of the spindle body and is formed with an interior annular tapered surface.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 1986Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Assignee: Ammco Tools, Inc.Inventor: Peter Contoyonis

Patent number: 4615152Abstract: A rotary cylinder hone includes an elongate drive shank connected to a carrier arm holder which supports a plurality of arm assemblies having abrasive units carried at the ends thereof. Each arm assembly has a pair of flanges formed at the end opposite the abrasive unit and a projection of the carrier arm holder is receivable therebetween. The flanges have apertures formed therein for receiving a circular retaining ring. The retaining ring is received by a generally circular slot provided in the carrier arm holder projections and serves to support the arm assemblies to the carrier arm holder for pivotable movement in a plane extending generally radially of the drive shank center line, thereby eliminating the need for individual attachment means for each of the arm assemblies.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1985Date of Patent: October 7, 1986Assignee: Ammco Tools, Inc.Inventor: Leo C.
