Patent number: 8920494Abstract: An intraocular lens (IOL) injector for delivering an IOL into an eye of a patient includes an IOL load chamber and connected delivery tube, and a push rod for urging the IOL through the delivery tube and out of a distal tip thereof. The push rod is guided and biased against one side of the injector load chamber. The injector may include an inflatable pusher for urging the IOL through the delivery tube and out of a distal tip thereof. The inflatable pusher has a proximal end that may be open to an internal cavity of the injector, wherein a plunger movable in the injector cavity forces fluid such as air or saline into the pusher. A distal end of the pusher may be forked to capture a trailing end of the IOL, or may have a bulbous configuration to ensure the pusher does not pass the IOL.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2013Date of Patent: December 30, 2014Assignee: AMO Regional HoldingsInventors: Scott J Catlin, Theophilus Bogaert

Publication number: 20110270596Abstract: An apparatus, system and method for predictive modeling to design, evaluate and optimize ophthalmic lenses is disclosed. Ophthalmic lenses may include, for example, contacts, glasses or intraocular lenses (IOLs). The apparatus, system and method may include a design tool for designing a lens for implantation in an eye having a plurality of characteristics, a simulator for simulating performance of the lens in at least one modeled eye having the plurality of characteristics, at least one input for receiving clinical performance of the lens in the eye having the plurality of characteristics, a comparator for comparing outcomes of the clinical performance and the simulated performance, and an optimizer for optimizing a subsequent one of the outcome of the clinical performance responsive to modification of the lens in accordance with modification to the simulated performance.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2010Publication date: November 3, 2011Applicant: AMO REGIONAL HOLDINGSInventor: Hendrik A. Publication number: 20110128502Abstract: A system for providing an intraocular lens includes a processor and a computer readable memory. The computer readable memory is configured to communicate with the processor, the memory having stored therein at least one of: one or more ocular dimensions, and at least one predetermined refractive outcome. The memory further includes a sequence of instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to select an intraocular lens, select a power of an intraocular lens, or provide an intraocular lens. The sequence of instructions includes determining one or more dimensions of an eye. The instructions also include calculating, based on a mathematical relationship, a distance from an apex of a cornea of the eye to an apex or plane of the intraocular lens after insertion into the eye. The instructions further calculating an optical power of the intraocular lens suitable for providing a predetermined refractive outcome.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2011Publication date: June 2, 2011Applicant: AMO Regional HoldingsInventors: Sverker Norrby, Rolf Bergman

Publication number: 20090268158Abstract: The present invention provides improved ophthalmic lenses and methods for their design and use. Monofocal and multifocal diffractive ophthalmic lenses having reduced light scatter and/or improved light energy distribution properties are provided. These properties are provided by the diffractive profiles of the invention, often having subtlely shaped echelettes with appropriately curving profiles. Light scatter may be generated by the sharp corners associated with vertical steps between adjacent conventional diffractive echelettes. Smooth diffractive profiles of the invention reduce light scatter. Light energy directed towards non-viewing diffractive orders may have a unwanted effects on vision quality. Diffractive profiles of the invention may limit the light energy in certain, selected orders, thereby improving viewing quality and mitigating unwanted effects such as dysphotopsia.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 24, 2008Publication date: October 29, 2009Applicant: AMO Regional HoldingsInventor: Henk A. Weeber

Publication number: 20090268155Abstract: The present invention provides improved ophthalmic lenses and methods for their design and use. Monofocal and multifocal diffractive ophthalmic lenses having reduced light scatter, improved light energy distribution properties, and/or other improvements in optical performance are provided. These properties are provided, at least in part, by the diffractive profiles of the invention, often having subtlety shaped echelettes with appropriately curving profiles. Smooth diffractive profiles may be used reduce light scatter. Diffractive profiles may be configured to limit the light energy in certain selected orders, thereby improving viewing quality and mitigating unwanted effects such as dysphotopsia. Diffractive profiles of may additionally or alternatively vary the light energy distributed between individual echelettes, providing additional advantages in various viewing situations.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2009Publication date: October 29, 2009Applicant: AMO Regional HoldingsInventor: Hendrik A. Publication number: 20070059276Abstract: Formulations and methods for protecting cell layers and tissues exposed to trauma are disclosed. Different molecular mass fractions of the same polymer can be used to better control the physical and chemical properties of the formulation. In this manner the benefits of both fractions, and not just the benefits of the average of the fractions, can be seen in the formulation.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2006Publication date: March 15, 2007Applicant: AMO Regional HoldingsInventors: Rolf Bergman, Maria Lundqvist, Stig Mannberg, Bjorn Lundgren, Robert Shimizu
