Patent number: 10113489Abstract: An air shutoff valve includes a passage for supplying air, a swing gate, a shaft attached to a reset handle, and a spring to urge the gate toward its closed position. A trigger assembly secures the shaft and gate in the open position and includes an actuator, a cam, and a rocker arm. A cam surface of the arm has a notch to receive a sear point of the cam. Movement of the handle against the spring causes the cam contact surface of the cam to follow the cam surface to cause the arm to rotate such that the sear point is received in the notch. Actuating the actuator causes the arm to pivot away from the cam such that the sear point is released from the notch, wherein the spring causes the shaft to move the gate to its closed position.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2016Date of Patent: October 30, 2018Assignee: AMOT Controls Corp.Inventors: Kamyar Molavi, Ken McClymonds

Patent number: 9494087Abstract: An engine shutoff valve is provided which includes a valve body having an air passageway in which a disc assembly and a valve seat assembly are located. The disc assembly includes a disc member which is arranged to be rotated and moved toward the valve seat assembly upon the occurrence of an engine runaway condition to close the valve. The valve seat assembly includes an anti-friction ring which is arranged to be engaged by the disc member when the valve is closed. The anti-friction ring is rotatable with respect to the valve body and the disc member to prevent the disc member from sticking thereto after closure of the valve, whereupon the valve can be readily reopened.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2014Date of Patent: November 15, 2016Assignee: AMOT CONTROLS CORP.Inventors: David Brett, David Grimwade, Simon Davies

Patent number: 8899257Abstract: A shutoff valve, e.g., an engine shutoff valve, is provided which includes a valve body having a fluid, e.g., air, passage and a disc assembly. The disc assembly is pivotable within the fluid passage from an open position to provide for free flow of fluid through the passage, to a closed position to provide a substantially closed off the fluid passage. The disc assembly includes a front disc, a rear disc, and a seal, e.g., a spring energized PTFE seal, disposed between the front disc and the rear disc. The front disc is permanently secured, e.g., welded, soldered or brazed, to the rear disc such that the seal is captured between the front disc and the rear disc.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2012Date of Patent: December 2, 2014Assignee: Amot Controls Corp.Inventors: David Grimwade, Kamyar Molavi, Ken McClymonds

Publication number: 20130168588Abstract: A valve (e.g., shutoff or regulating) is provided including a valve body having a fluid passage and a disc assembly. The disc assembly is pivotable within the fluid passage from an open position wherein the disc assembly is positioned within the fluid passage to provide for free flow of fluid through the fluid passage, to a closed position wherein the disc assembly is positioned within the fluid passage to substantially close off the fluid passage. The disc assembly includes a disc having a circumferential edge having a groove. A seal (e.g., an O-ring) is disposed in the groove. A pressure relief mechanism (e.g., a plurality of apertures) is provided adjacent to the seal to partially relieve differential pressure on the seal caused by fluid passing through the fluid passage. A similar valve having its seal located on the valve body is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2011Publication date: July 4, 2013Applicant: AMOT CONTROLS CORP.Inventor: Jason Fiske Hill

Publication number: 20130068984Abstract: A swing gate valve is provided having a swing gate, a pivotable shaft having a swing arm disposed thereon such that rotation of the shaft causes rotation of the swing arm, a spring to urge the swing gate toward its closed position, a trigger assembly for securing the swing gate in its open position and for triggering the shaft to rotate including an actuator having a shaft and a receiver in the swing gate to receive the shaft, wherein when the shaft is in an extended position, the shaft is disposed in the receiver and the swing gate is locked in its open position, and wherein actuation of the actuator causes the shaft to withdraw to a retracted position out of the receiver, wherein the spring causes the pivotable shaft to rotate to move the swing gate to its closed position.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 17, 2011Publication date: March 21, 2013Applicant: AMOT CONTROLS CORP.Inventors: Kamyar Molavi, Ken McClymonds

Patent number: 6065487Abstract: A valve having a valve body with an elongated opening therein and having a first end and a second end. A valve member is slidably disposed in the elongated opening. First, second and third ports are in fluid communication with the opening in the valve body at times. One of the first, second and third ports have a supply of fluid under pressure connected thereto. A first passage is disposed in the valve body and leads from the first port to the second end thereof. A second passage is disposed in the valve body and leads from the second port to the second end thereof. A third passage is disposed in the valve body and leads from the third port to the second end thereof. An actuator body is adapted to be connected to the valve body and has a cavity therein. The actuator body has a first end adjacent to the second end of the valve body. An actuator is disposed in the cavity. The actuator has a first side and a second side and is moveable between a first and a second position thereof for moving the valve member.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1998Date of Patent: May 23, 2000Assignee: Amot Controls Corp.Inventor: Nigel S.
