Patent number: 5192228Abstract: A shielded surface mount electrical connector (10) that has an insulative housing (18) having at least one compliant surface mount contact (30) secured therein. The shield (12) has at least one boardlock (14) integral therewith. The boardlock (14) has at least one spring (78 or 80) for reception in a boardlock receiving aperture (74) in a circuit board (16) on which the connector (10) is mounted. The spring (78 or 80) has at least one barb (92) thereon positioned along the spring (78 or 80) to engage the wall of the boardlock receiving aperture (74).Type: GrantFiled: August 11, 1992Date of Patent: March 9, 1993Assignee: AMP Inc.Inventors: Henry B. Collins, Benjamin H. Mosser, III, Steven G. Smith

Patent number: 4324450Abstract: A single metal blank is stamped and formed to provide an electrical terminal which includes sets of jaws which are closed toward one another to penetrate through insulation of a wire conductor and to grippingly engage the conductor. The jaws are closed readily by a pair of pliers. The terminal may be applied as a tap-off along one of a pair of wire connectors without disturbing the other conductor.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1980Date of Patent: April 13, 1982Assignee: AMP Inc.Inventors: Lawrence P. Weisenburger, Henry L. Delguidice

Patent number: 4319075Abstract: The present invention relates to utilization of a flat conductor cable enclosed within a sealed envelope. In particular, methods are disclosed for entering the envelope to route the cable along an angle turn or to splice the cable to another, like cable.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1981Date of Patent: March 9, 1982Assignee: AMP Inc.Inventor: Albert D. Willette

Patent number: 4309370Abstract: Plastic molding apparatus is disclosed for forming a series of molded connector bodies along a molded strip segment. By repeating the molding cycle, an additional strip segment is simultaneously molded and joined to a previously made strip segment, so that repeated cycling of the molding machine provides a molded continuous strip interconnecting a series of molded bodies.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1979Date of Patent: January 5, 1982Assignee: AMP Inc.Inventors: Ronald D. Sizemore, John J. Tucci, Albert D. Willette

Patent number: 4307926Abstract: An electrical connector assembly is disclosed for terminating a triaxial or twin axial cable of the type having two center conductors which are dressed for termination to extend forward respective distances free from a dielectric casing, conductive shield, and outer sheath therearound. The assembly includes a center contact, an inner bored body, an inner ferrule, an outer bored body, and an outer ferrule. The center contact is affixed to the end of a forwardmost extending one of the two center conductors and is thereafter inserted into the inner body having preinserted dielectric means for insulating the center contact. The inner ferrule is radially crimped upon a rearward portion of the inner body having a forward uninsulated end of the second cable center conductor position thereagainst.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1980Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: AMP Inc.Inventor: Donald L. Smith

Patent number: 4307504Abstract: The disclosure relates to apparatus for installing a clamp portion of an electrical connector to a multiconductor communication cable. The apparatus is used in conjunction with apparatus for trimming, and connecting, wires to electrical terminals of the connector.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 1980Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: AMP Inc.Inventors: John D. Davis, Jess B. Ferrill, Ronald D. Sizemore

Patent number: 4300282Abstract: An electrically operated tool is disclosed for inserting one or more insulated electrical wires into a barrel shaped, slotted terminal. A modified solenoid provides a hammer action power stroke which is initiated by partially retracting the toolhead inwardly of the tool upon movement of the tool against the barrel terminal. A trigger circuit applies line voltage to the solenoid windings, saturating the core, to provide rapid power stroke, so that the solenoid armature hammers against a strike plate of the toolhead. The trigger circuit includes a high and low power adjustment.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1979Date of Patent: November 17, 1981Assignee: AMP Inc.Inventors: John R. Bunyea, Jess B. Ferrill, Ray A. J. Hutchinson, Ronald G. Sergeant

Patent number: 4284320Abstract: An electrical connector housing is formed of two relatively slidable parts movable between a condition in which contact cavities are aligned, for insertion of contacts and a condition in which the cavities are slightly out of alignment so that one housing part presents shoulders overlapping edges of cavities in the other part for positively retaining contacts in the other part. The housing parts have interengaging guide means and resilient latch means securing the housing parts in the second condition.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1979Date of Patent: August 18, 1981Assignee: AMP Inc.Inventors: Lothar H. W. Nix, John Heinrich
