Patent number: 10746548Abstract: Novel structural features applicable to a variety of inertial sensors. A composite ring composed of concentric subrings is supported by a compliant support structure suspending the composite ring relative to a substrate. The compliant support structure may either be interior or exterior to the composite ring. The compliant support may be composed of multiple substantially concentric rings coupled to neighboring rings by transverse members regularly spaced at intervals that vary with radius relative to a central axis of symmetry. Subrings making up the composite ring may vary in width so as to provide larger displacement amplitudes at intermediate radii, for example. In other embodiments, electrodes are arranged to reduce sensitivity to vibration and temperature, and shock stops are provided to preclude shorting in response to shocks.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 2014Date of Patent: August 18, 2020Assignee: Analog Devices, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey A. Publication number: 20200260118Abstract: There is disclosed herein examples of systems and methods for compressing a signal. Samples of the signal can be segmented and the samples within each of the segments can be averaged to produce a value that can represent the samples within the segment. The number of samples to average in each segment may be determined based on an error threshold, such that the number of samples being averaged can be maximized to produce less data to be transmitted while maintaining the representation of the samples within the error threshold. In some embodiments, a signal can be separated into a timing reference, a representative periodic function, and a highly compressible error signal. The error signal can be utilized for reproducing a representation of the signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 11, 2020Publication date: August 13, 2020Applicant: Analog Devices, Inc.Inventors: Patrick RIEHL, Tony J. Publication number: 20200249158Abstract: Device for improving an optical detecting smoke apparatus and implementing thereof. Apparatus and methods for detecting the presence of smoke in a small, long-lasting smoke detector are disclosed. Specifically, the present disclosure shows how to build one or more optimized blocking members in a smoke detector to augment signal to noise ratio. This is performed while keeping the reflections from the housing structure to a very low value while satisfying all the other peripheral needs of fast response to smoke and preventing ambient light. This allows very small measurements of light scattering of the smoke particles to be reliable in a device resistant to the negative effects of dust. In particular, geometrical optical elements, e.g., cap and optical defection elements, are disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2020Publication date: August 6, 2020Applicant: Analog Devices, Inc.Inventor: Shrenik Deliwala

Publication number: 20200247562Abstract: Aircraft sensors are described which record a condition of interest of the aircraft during flight without being powered. The sensor may include a sensing element comprising a nanostructure material which permanently changes state in connection with a permanent change in state of the aircraft, thus recording the condition of the aircraft. When the aircraft is on the ground, the recorded condition is read from the sensor using a wireless radio frequency (RF) reader, rather than communicating the recorded state during flight. In this manner, the sensor operates without interfering with the aircraft while in flight.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 5, 2019Publication date: August 6, 2020Applicant: Analog Devices, Inc.Inventor: Yosef Stein

Patent number: 10734806Abstract: High voltage clamps with active activation and activation-release control are provided herein. In certain configurations, a clamp can have scalable operating clamping voltage level and can be used to protect the electrical circuit connected to a power supply of a semiconductor chip from damage from an overstress event, such as electrostatic discharge (ESD) events. The pins of the power supply are actively monitored to detect when an overstress event is present, and the clamp is turned-on in response to detecting the overstress event. A timer is used to shut down the clamp after a time delay from detecting the overstress event, thereby providing a false detection shutdown mechanism that prevents the protection clamp from getting falsely activated and remain in the on-state during normal circuit operation.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 2016Date of Patent: August 4, 2020Assignee: Analog Devices, Inc.Inventors: James Zhao, Javier Alejandro Salcedo, Srivatsan Parthasarathy
