  • Patent number: 10530611
Abstract: Devices exchange control signals with each other to ensure proper operation of an overall system. For instance, in a communication system, a baseband processor and a transceiver communicate with each other to exchange information for controlling the respective signal processing parts of the baseband processor and the transceiver. While Serial Peripheral Interfaces (SPIs) can be used, SPI can be extremely slow, and does not provide a protocol for allowing a complex set of control signals to be exchanged between the baseband processor and transceiver. The present disclosure describes a fast control interface which can support various modes of operation in allowing two devices to communicate with each other quickly and effectively.

  • Patent number: 10520526
Abstract: A microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensor device with a compound folded tether is disclosed. The compound folded tether connects a movable proof mass to a substrate, and includes folds composed of multiple short segments aligned with each other to form a longer composite segment having multiple breaks along its length. The use of multiple short segments to create a longer composite segment of the folded tether provides the tether with increased stiffness without altering the fundamental resonance frequency of the tether. The increased stiffness can beneficially lower the occurrence of stiction. Moreover, such a tether configuration provides larger separation between the tether's fundamental resonance frequency and higher order resonant mode frequencies, meaning that the higher order modes may be suppressed in typical operation of the MEMS sensor device.

  • Patent number: 10521616
Abstract: As a PUF device ages, the response characteristics of the device change. Thus, mappings made on the original PUF outputs can drift and become invalid. Re-enrollment or re-mapping of hidden values to PUF response characteristics can resolve the changing nature of the PUF. Unfortunately, an adversary may tamper with the PUF during re-enrollment compromising security of the PUF. Accordingly, techniques of securely and remotely re-enrolling a PUF device are described. During an initial enrollment of the PUF device, multiple sets of enrollment values of the PUF device can be generated. For remote re-enrollment, a first initial set of enrollment values can be used to authenticate the PUF device. Upon authentication using the first initial set, the PUF device can re-enroll the PUF device and account for changes in PUF characteristics. A second set of initial enrollment values can then be used to verify that the PUF device is unaltered.

  • Patent number: 10523165
Abstract: A common mode feedback (CMFB) loop for a differential amplifier sense an output common mode of a differential circuit and provides feedback to the gates of tail current transistors. Many CMFB loops cannot easily adjust the output common mode voltage and the output common mode may vary over process, voltage, and temperature. An improved CMFB circuit adds a control circuit to control backgates of tail current transistor device(s) of the differential circuit such that the output common mode voltage can be made adjustable.

  • Publication number: 20190391238
Abstract: Depth imagers can implement time-of-flight operations to measure depth or distance of objects. A depth imager can emit light onto a scene and sense light reflected back from the objects in the scene using an array of sensors. Timing of the reflected light hitting the array of sensors gives information about the depth or distance of objects in the scene. In some cases, corrupting light that is outside of a field of view of a pixel in the array of sensors can hit the pixel due to internal scattering or internal reflections occurring in the depth imager. The corrupting light can corrupt the depth or distance measurement. To address this problem, an improved depth imager can isolate and measure the corrupting light due to internal scattering or internal reflections occurring in the depth imager, and systematically remove the measured corrupting light from the depth or distance measurement.

  • Publication number: 20190386460
Abstract: Optical systems can emit train(s) of light pulses onto objects to derive a distance between the light source and the object. Achieving meter or centimeter resolution may require very short light pulses. It is not trivial to design a circuit that can generate narrow current pulses for driving a diode that emits the light pulses. An improved driver circuit has a pre-charge path comprising one or more inductive elements and a fire path comprising the diode. Switches in the driver circuit are controlled with predefined states during different intervals to pre-charge current in the one or more inductive elements prior to flowing current through the fire path to pulse the diode.

  • Publication number: 20190374711
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for measuring depth, position, and/or angle of a cannula in a medical drug delivery device. In particular, a drug delivery device having a cannula is positioned adjacent to tissue, a voltage pulse is provided to the cannula, a charge is measured at an electrode in the drug delivery device, and the depth of penetration of the cannula is determined based in part on the charge at the first electrode. Systems and methods described herein can be used to determine subcutaneous insertion depth in a wearable bolus injector. In some implementations, insertion depth determination is achieved through capacitive sensors which measure needle depth in a drug delivery device.

  • Publication number: 20190363714
Abstract: According to various aspects, systems and methods for providing a soft-decoding physical unclonable function are provided. According to one embodiment, PUF circuitry includes circuit elements with impedance values that are used to generate a PUF value. For example, one or more resistors may be connected to a voltage source. The resistors may generate a resulting voltage signal that is measured and indicates a ratio of the impedance values of the resistors. Due to manufacturing variations, each impedance value may be unique, such that the impedance values may be used to provide a unique number sequence. Each ratio value may be converted into a single bit or multi-bit digital value through digitization, for example with a comparator and/or an analog to digital converter, and the series of digital values may represent or be used to generate a unique number sequence.

  • Patent number: 10488993
Abstract: Metal cases are increasingly in popularity in electronics such as smart phones, tablets, portable speakers, etc., since the look and feel of a metal case are appealing to the consumer. Unfortunately, the metal case is generally incompatible traditional capacitive sensing electrodes, which are usually provided on a printed circuit board or flex circuit and are only usable with plastic cases. To provide capacitive sensing with a metal case, a specialized material stack can be fabricated to embed capacitive sensors with the metal case. Specifically, a conductor (a conductive pad, or conductive layer) can be deposited over an oxide layer formed on the metal case (e.g., through anodization). An outer coating can be provided to protect the conductor. A further conductor and dielectric can be included in the material stack to form a double layer capacitive sensor.

  • Publication number: 20190340418
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to performing facial recognition using a single-pixel sensor that measures the time signature of a light pulse reflected from a subjects face. Due to depth differences between the sensor position and different parts of the subject's face reflections of a short duration illumination pulse from the different parts of the subject's face will arrive back at the sensor at different times, thus providing a time-based one-dimensional signature unique to the individual subject. By analyzing the reflection signature using neural networks or principal component analysis (PCA), recognition of the subject can be obtained. In addition, the same system may also be used to recognize or discriminate between any other objects of known shape in addition to faces, for example manufactured products on a production line, or the like.

  • Publication number: 20190342105
Abstract: This application describes systems and methods for using a physical unclonable function (PUF) to authenticate a device, which may include circuitry for generating PUF values that may uniquely identify the device. According to one aspect, the device may provide enrollment PUF values to an authentication device. The device may later be authenticated if PUF values generated by the device are within a threshold distance of the enrollment PUF values. Since the PUF values are compared using a distance, it may not necessary to apply an error correcting code to the PUF values. The enrollment values and/or the calculated distance may be adjusted to compensate for time variations in the PUF values due to circuit aging. Systems and methods are also described herein for authenticating the device without revealing new PUF values to any second party, for example using a cryptographic technique known as a garbled circuit.
