Publication number: 20020027686Abstract: A method for routing optical packets using multiple wavelength labels includes converting optical packet address signals to a plurality of optical pulses having different time-deviated wavelengths by executing a first operation to impart a wavelength dependent delay time with respect to a plurality of optical pulses having different wavelengths at a same time axis position. When the optical pulses are transmitted along a predetermined optical path having dispersion, the dispersion is compensated for by executing a second operation on the optical pulses corresponding to a reverse process of the operation to impart a wavelength dependent delay time. This second operation results in the generation of a plurality of optical pulses having different wavelengths at a given point on the time axis. The pulse signals thus generated are used to determine the packet transmission route.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 30, 2001Publication date: March 7, 2002Applicant: Communications Research Laboratory, Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts & Telecomm.Inventors: Naoya Wada, Hiroaki Harai, Wataru Chujo, Fumito Kubota

Patent number: 6353717Abstract: When an instruction to perform both-side recording for recording an image on each of both sides of a recording medium is input, it is determined whether the recording medium to be subjected to image recording is a water-repellent sheet that repels water. When the recording medium is determined to be the water-repellent sheet, the water-repellent sheet is compulsively discharged, or set to wait at a position, before an image is transferred, enabling the sheet to be removed, thereby preventing the water-repellent paper with oil on a surface thereof from being returned to a paper path for the second-side recording.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2000Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: Matsushita Graphic Communication Systems, Inc.Inventor: Nobuhiro Suzuki

Patent number: 6352256Abstract: A media feeding system has a pick arm with a pick roller, a media tray, a media restrainer, a motor and a drive train. The pick arm is rotatably installed above the media tray so that it can lift the pick roller away from the media tray, and lower it onto the media tray. The media restrainer can be in an up or a down position. When in the up position, it prevents media from moving out of the media tray. When in the down position, media can move out of the media tray past the media restrainer. The drive train delivers torque from the motor to the pick arm, pick roller and media restrainer. The motor can operate in two directions. When operating in the first direction, the media restrainer moves into the down position, the pick roller lowers onto stacked media and pushes a sheet out of the media tray past the media restrainer. When the motor operates in the second direction, the media restrainer moves into the up position, and the pick arm lifts the pick roller away from the stacked media.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2000Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: Acer Communications and Multimedia Inc.Inventor: Yen-Sung Hsieh

Patent number: 6353691Abstract: A method and system for providing a splitter/combiner is disclosed. The splitter/combiner includes a first birefringent wedge having a first optic axis and a first wedge angle and a second birefringent wedge having a second optic axis and a second wedge angle. The second birefringent wedge is optically coupled with the first birefringent wedge. The second wedge angle is complementary to the first wedge angle. The second optic axis is perpendicular to the first optic axis such that an extraordinary signal for the first birefringent wedge is an ordinary signal for the second birefringent wedge. The first and second birefringent wedges establish a first path for a first portion of a first optical signal and establish a second path for a second portion of the first optical signal. The first path and the second path are separated by an angle. The first optical signal travels from the first birefringent wedge to the second birefringent wedge.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2000Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: Oplink Communications, Inc.Inventors: Wei Zhong Li, Yanfeng Yang

Patent number: 6353604Abstract: A bidirectional digital data communication system which generate phase coherent upstream clock and carrier signals from recovered downstream clock generated from a master clock in a central unit. The preferred species uses any downstream clock rate and generates a phase coherent upstream clock so long as the two clock rates can be related by the ratio M/N where M and N are integers. One embodiment uses an MCNS downstream and an SCDMA upstream and uses MNCN timestamp messages in the downstream to achieve an estimate of RU frame offset prior to establishing frame alignment using a ranging process. The use of timestamp messages to estimate the offset is aided by a low jitter method for inserting timestamp messages by avoiding straddling of MPEG packet headers with the sync message. Clock slip is detected by counting upstream clock cycles over a predetermined downstream clock interval and the RU transmitter is shut down if slip is detected to prevent ISI interference from misaligned codes.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2001Date of Patent: March 5, 2002Assignee: Terayon Communications Systems, Inc.Inventors: Michael Grimwood, Jim Knittel, Paul Richardson, Selim Shlomo Rakib, Paul Alan Lind, Doug Artman

Patent number: 6353870Abstract: Methods and apparatus for closed-case removable expansion cards having a removable memory enhance the utility of portable computer hosts, such as PDAs. In both a first and second embodiments the closed-case removable expansion cards preferably use a Type II CompactFlash form factor. In the first embodiment the removable memory is in combination with an external-I/O connector or attached external-I/O device, providing both I/O and memory functions in a single closed-case removable expansion card. This increases the expansion functional density for portable computer hosts, such as PDAs. That is, it increases the amount of functionality that can be accommodated within a given volume allocation for expansion devices. In the second embodiment the removable memory is a private memory for application specific circuitry within the closed-case-removable expansion card. Patent number: 6351498Abstract: A digital modulation and demodulation scheme for radio communications which is capable of reducing errors due to fading while maintaining the characteristic of the M-ary modulation and demodulation scheme that it is robust against interferences. At the transmitting side, transmission data are divided in advance into blocks of LN bits length each and each block is divided into N sets of L bits data sequences. Then, orthogonal codes of M bits length each corresponding to L bits codes given by the L bits data sequences are generated, and N sets of orthogonal codes for each block are multiplexed into a multiplexed signal, such that M bits constituting each orthogonal code are dispersed in time in the multiplexed signal. A digital modulation is then applied to a carrier using the multiplexed signal.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1998Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: NTT Mobile Communications Network Inc.Inventors: Yasushi Yamao, Shogo Ito, Shinzo Ohkubo, Kobaruto Shimada, Fumiyuki Adachi
