  • Patent number: 5782325
Abstract: A rolling suitcase has a bottom assembly to which the wheel wells are connected which can be molded in one size and cut to suit various case widths. A pullout handle assembly is braced against the internal frame of the case to prevent rotation of that assembly and utilizes a rotating lever mechanism for minimum friction.

  • Patent number: 5505297
Abstract: A garment bag of the type having an elongate body substantially formed of flexible fabric or sheet material, and defining a cavity with a hanger support at the top for receiving hanging clothes on hangers. The bag folds double on itself for transport, and includes a pair of rigid wall portions which when the bag is folded double on itself are urged forcefully together. These rigid wall portions substantially immobilize the clothing items therebetween to greatly reduce creasing and wrinkling of the clothing items which would otherwise result from their shifting about in transit. The garment bag also includes features preserving the efforts of careful packing during folding and unfolding of the bag to further reduce clothes wrinkling. Also, the garment bag includes a specially configured toiletries kit which by its shape and placement in the folded bag further contributes to a reduction of clothes wrinkling.

  • Patent number: 5400900
Abstract: A clothes hanger support for a garment bag or other similar item of luggage includes a depending bracket member pivotally supporting a lower jaw member with hanger-supporting features. A closure member and latch handle cooperates with the bracket and jaw members in a closed position to hold the latter in a hanger-retaining position. Alternatively, the closure member latch handle may be pivoted to allow the jaw member to itself pivot to an open position for insertion or removal of hangers on the support. Pivotal return of the closure member latch handle to the closed position also moves the jaw member to its hanger-retaining position by cooperation of a ramp surface and ramp-follower surface of the closure member latch handle and jaw member, respectively. Preferably, the entire hanger support may be made of four unitary components which are formed of injection molded engineering polymer.

  • Patent number: 5115895
Abstract: A luggage case is constructed from four flat extruded plastic beams having ribs on one surface, and four inside corner pieces that include tongues extending into the recesses defined by the ribs. Fabric fits over the frame thus provided. Exterior corner pieces overlie the corners of the fabric and are attached to the inner corner pieces. The corner pieces extend the full width of the case to support the fabric. Wheels may be provided to allow the case to be pulled. Cases of different sizes are produced by cutting a plastic extrusion to form beams of different lengths. The same corner pieces are used for cases of all sizes.

  • Patent number: 4743038
Abstract: This invention provides a carrying case made up of two sections of molded plastic which are identical except at their outer edges which meet when the case is closed. One edge includes a tongue with reinforcing ribs which enters a groove in the outer edge to engage a gasket and form a fluid seal as well as strengthening the case. Nothing penetrates the wall of the case, the latches being connected to supports spaced outwardly from the case wall. Sockets on the bottom of the case receive spaced support members projecting from a luggage cart, and can receive connecting elements to enable the cart to carry more than one case. The sockets also can receive wheel units so that a single case may be mounted on wheels, or a plurality of cases may be connected and supported on a set of wheels. The case includes integral feet on the bottom wall to support it, and bosses on the inner walls for connecting items to the interior of the case.

  • Patent number: 4732270
Abstract: This invention provides a hanger supporting device for a garment bag which will accommodate both ordinary hangers and luggage-type hangers. The device includes a plate attachable to a garment bag, a first channel connected to the plate, a second channel carried by the first channel, a third channel pivotally connected to the second channel, and a rail connected to the second channel. The rail is adapted to engage luggage-type hangers. A pad having a notched surface is carried by the third channel and adapted to support ordinary hangers. A latching arrangement releasably holds the third channel adjacent the first channel to retain the hanger in the notches in the pad.

  • Patent number: 4261448
Abstract: A travel bag is formed from a rectangular, pliable fabric container to which is attached a carrying and suspension system including a single handle connected to a support plate adjacent the upper wall of the container. When the bag is lifted by its handle, a significant portion of the lifting force is transmitted to horizontally extending straps, sewn along their lengths to the sidewalls of the container, via vertically extending straps bearing on the support plate and anchored to the horizontal straps. The carrying and suspension system thus distributes lifting stress across the widths of the container sidewalls, thereby eliminating localized, vertical stress areas along the sidewalls. The side and end walls of the container are nonreinforced and the vertical straps may be adjusted to vertically and horizontally compress the container against objects therein to restrain them from shifting within the container when it is only partially loaded.
