Publication number: 20120329631Abstract: A screen bowl centrifuge having first and second conically diverging screen sections. And a method of separating solids from liquid of a slurry includes feeding a slurry from a conveyor hub to a cylindrical section of a bowl extending about the conveyor hub; scrolling the solids along the cylindrical section in a first direction and a majority of the liquid in a second direction opposite the first direction using at least one helical blade extending from the conveyor hub; and sliding the solids from the cylindrical section along a conically diverging screen section of the bowl that includes a first conically diverging section and a second conically diverging section, the first conically diverging section extending at a first angle to the axis and the second conically diverging section extends at a second angle to the axis, and the first angle is different from the second angle.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2012Publication date: December 27, 2012Applicant: ANDRITZ SEPARATION INC.Inventors: Timothy S. QUINN, Michael REICHENBACH

Patent number: 8246842Abstract: A centrifuge (2) for separating solids from liquid of a slurry with a conveyor (12) having a hub (14) rotatable about an axis (34) and at a helical blade (16) extending axially and radially from the hub. A bowl (4) including a cylindrical section (6) extending from an upstream end of the conveyor and a conically diverging screen section (10) extending to a downstream end of the conveyor extends about the conveyor and is rotatable about the axis. The conically diverging screen section includes an angle (40) that reduces the coefficient of friction of the solids to allow a cake formed of the solids to slide in a controlled manner forward on the conically diverging screen section with minimal back pressure, but without allowing the solid cake to break loose from the conically diverging screen section and slide out of the centrifuge in an uncontrolled manner.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2009Date of Patent: August 21, 2012Assignee: Andritz Separation, Inc.Inventor: Nicholas Robert Frohlich, Jr.

Publication number: 20100196199Abstract: A method and system for treating biosolid material having pathogens, the method including: introducing dried biosolid material into a pathogen treatment vessel; monitoring an actual temperature of the dried biosolid material in the treatment vessel; determining a desired residence time of the biosolid material in the treatment vessel; determining a desired minimum temperature of the dried biosolid material in the treatment vessel, wherein the minimum temperature is based on the desired determined residence time of the biosolid material in the treatment vessel; passing the dried biosolid material through the treatment vessel such that the actual residence time of the biosolid material in the treatment vessel is at least as long as the determined residence time; applying heat from a hot fluid to the dried biosolid material in the treatment vessel, if the actual temperature of the biosolid material is lower than the minimum temperature, and reducing pathogens in the biosolid material by maintaining the biosolidType: ApplicationFiled: March 3, 2008Publication date: August 5, 2010Applicant: ANDRITZ SEPARATION INC.Inventors: Armin Vonplon, Eric Liechti

Publication number: 20100120600Abstract: A vibrating centrifuge includes a housing; a basket rotatably supported by the housing; a main drive motor operatively connected to the basket to rotate the basket; a vibration transfer shaft operatively connected to the basket at a first end of the vibration transfer shaft to vibrate the basket; and at least one vibration motor resiliently connected to the housing and operatively connected to the vibration transfer shaft at a second end of the vibration transfer shaft. A vibration drive for a centrifuge including a basket rotatably supported in a housing includes a vibration transfer shaft operatively connected to the basket at a first end of the vibration transfer shaft; and at least one vibration motor connected to a mount, the mount being resiliently connectable to the housing, the vibration transfer shaft being connected to the mount at a second end of the vibration transfer shaft.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2009Publication date: May 13, 2010Applicant: ANDRITZ SEPARATION INC.Inventors: Nicholas Robert Frohlich, JR., Bernward Feldkamp, Neville Cockcroft

Publication number: 20090247383Abstract: A centrifuge (2) includes a conveyor (12) including a hub (14) rotatable about an axis (34) and at least one helical blade (16) extending radially from the hub and in the axial direction of the hub. A bowl (4) extends about the conveyor and is rotatable about the axis. The bowl includes a cylindrical section (6) extending from an upstream end of the conveyor and a conically diverging screen section (10) extending to a downstream end of the conveyor. The bowl may also include a conically converging section (8). The conically diverging screen section includes an angle (40) that reduces the coefficient of friction of the solids to a point that allows the cake formed of the solids to slide in a controlled manner forward on the conically diverging screen section with minimal back pressure but without allowing the solid cake to break loose from the conically diverging screen section and slide out of the centrifuge in an uncontrolled manner.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2009Publication date: October 1, 2009Applicant: ANDRITZ SEPARATION INC.Inventor: Nicholas Robert Frohlich, JR.
