Patent number: 5383504Abstract: A veneer cutting station (10) for a wood log (12) comprises a veneer cutting machine (11) producing a continuous sheet of rotary-cut veneer sent to transverse cutting means and at least one incising blade (23) arranged for cutting longitudinally the veneer sheet in a predetermined position of its width and thus form parallel strips of veneer. Downstream of the veneer cutting machine (11) are located deflecting means (14) identifying running tables (27) for strips of veneer each towards one of a plurality of superimposed paths (15,16,20,21) and there being along each path (15,16,20,21) a cutter (18,19) for transverse cutting of the veneer.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1993Date of Patent: January 24, 1995Assignee: Angelo Cremona & Figlio S.p.A.Inventor: Lorenzo Cremona

Patent number: 5226243Abstract: A plant (10) for the drying of wood panels and in particular veneer comprises two conveyor belts (12,13) overlying substantially in contact along a sinuous path between guide rollers (16) inside a drying chamber (11). The wood panels are conveyed between the overlying belts (12,13) from an input end to an output end of the chamber. Outside the path in mutual contact the two belts (12,13) wind on powered running rollers (17-20), the rollers (16) inside the sinuous path in contact being idling rollers. In particular, the powered rollers (17-20) are transmission rollers at one end of the sinuous path in mutual contact with the belts (12,13).Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1992Date of Patent: July 13, 1993Assignee: Angelo Cremona & Figlio S.p.A.Inventor: Lorenzo Cremona

Patent number: 5201258Abstract: A station (10) for cutting sheets of wood (13), and in particular for cutting packages of sheets, includes a first device (12) for positioning a package of sheets under a first cutter (15) so as to separate parts of the package sequentially. A further device (14) takes the cut part and sends it to a second cutter (17) for sequentially cutting the part along a second direction so as to obtain another division in subparts sequentially and selectively conveyed outside the station. Electronic controls are used to manage operation of the cutters and the positioning and taking devices for performing the cuts in accordance with a previously set grid of cuts.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1992Date of Patent: April 13, 1993Assignee: Angelo Cremona & Figlio S.p.A.Inventor: Lorenzo Cremona

Patent number: 5035164Abstract: A machine for cutting and stacking into layers sheets of a pre-established size from a plurality of strips of wood obtained from a piece of veneer. The pieces of veneer are fed into a cutter by means of a first conveyor belt actuated by a control means which detects flaws in the wood to cut out transverse strips containing the flaws that are then automatically discarded as they come off the cutter. Strips free from defects are then sent on by a second conveyor belt to a deflector which distributes the strips onto two conveyor belts with intermittent movement so as to arrange the strips into compact adjacent groups to form a sheet of desired length. The plurality of adjacent strips forming a sheet are then sent to stackers to form layers of the sheets.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1990Date of Patent: July 30, 1991Assignee: Angelo Cremona & Figlio S.p.A.Inventor: Lorenzo Cremona

Patent number: 5031677Abstract: A rotary veneer-cutting machine for cutting sheets of veneer from tree trunks comprises a bladeholder unit (19) moving on a pair of support elements (21, 23) along guides (23) for drawing a blade (16) toward the axis of the trunk (14). Said support elements (21, 23) in addition to moving along guides (23) also move independently in a direction virtually perpendicular to the guides (23) to incline and displace the blade (16) in relation to the diametrical plane of the trunk (14). Support element (21) is located virtually in a plane perpendicular to the guides (23) that passes through the edge of the blade (16) and the other support (22) in a position which is remote from said plane.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1990Date of Patent: July 16, 1991Assignee: Angelo Cremona & Figlio S.p.A.Inventor: Lorenzo Cremona

Patent number: 5016692Abstract: A rotary veneer-cutting machine for tree trunks including a blade holder unit (15, 16, 17, 18) that laterally approaches the axis of a trunk (12) to be cut and top rollers (25) and side rollers (31) counteracting the bending of the trunk (12) caused by the shearing stresses of the blade. The side rollers (31) are positioned diametrically opposite the blade (17) and are motor driven. A piston (39) supplies thrust action for the rollers (31) against the trunk so as to insure adherence thereto even with low bending stresses of the trunk.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1990Date of Patent: May 21, 1991Assignee: Angelo Cremona & Figlio S.p.A.Inventor: Lorenzo Cremona

Patent number: 4862600Abstract: A wood veneer drier in which the veneers are fed between two belts one above the other along a path, which is generally sinusoidal, formed by a plurality of guide rollers around which the said belts partially wind, the said guide rollers being disposed along the generally sinusoidal path followed by the pair of belts. In consequence, the path comprises a plurality of rectilinear sections connected one to the next by very short arcuate sections proximal to the pitch points between the said pair of belts and each guide roller, where each arcuate section preferably subtends an angle of proximately 40.degree.-50.degree..Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1989Date of Patent: September 5, 1989Assignee: Angelo Cremona & Figlio S.p.A.Inventor: Lorenzo Cremona

Patent number: 4809574Abstract: A system for selecting wood veneers on the basis of their size comprises in combination: a cutter, at least a selector apparatus downstream of the cutter composed of a vacuum conveyor, expellers cooperating with the conveyor to separate the veneer from it, sensors for reading the length of the veneer which are disposed upstream of the cutter and which control the coming into operation of the expellers, and a conveyor for taking the veneers to a stacker downstream of the selector apparatus. The expellers consist of a plurality of compressed air nozzles above the feed path of the veneer which are adapted to direct in a controlled manner jets of air against the veneer so as to detach it abruptly from the vacuum conveyor.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1988Date of Patent: March 7, 1989Assignee: Angelo Cremona & Figlio S.p.A.Inventor: Angelo Cremona
