Patent number: 5984181Abstract: A process for dispensing individual chip cards to a plurality of individual chip card users employs a chip card dispensing station (1) with at least one storage container (2). Chip cards are stored in the chip card dispensing station (1). The chip cards are capable for use in external read-write stations and contain electronic components requested by a card user for implementing chip card applications. A remotely located verification or monitoring station (5) is linked to the chip card dispensing station (1) via a cable-linked and/or radio-linked active data connection (4) for entering personal data into the chip card dispensing station via a user menu (3). A loaded chip card is issued to the card user operating the user menu. The loaded chip card is selected from the chip cards stored the chip card dispensing station (1).Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1997Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignee: Angewandte Digital Electronik GmbHInventor: Hans-Diedrich Kreft

Patent number: 5648761Abstract: Contact-free cards that have at least two coupling elements spatially separated from one another such as, inductor coils, capacitors plates or photoreceivers, that utilize the effects derived from the spatial distance of the coupling elements from one another, i.e. stereo effect, is provided. The contact-free chip cards use the stereo effect to decide whether they are located within a prescribed range of a transmitter receiver. The range of the access can be reduced further, but cannot be increased beyond a fixed limit. Thus, access to the data of such cards outside this range is precluded. Such cards can additionally be equipped with means for switchable authorization of remote access. The contact-free card apparatus of the present invention further provides that it is the card itself and not the card environment that decides whether it is located in the near range of the terminal device such that it allows protectable access to its data and prohibits access from a greater distance.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1994Date of Patent: July 15, 1997Assignee: Angewandte Digital Electronik GmbHInventors: Hans-Diedrich Kreft, Holger Mackenthun, Michael Iloff

Patent number: 5473323Abstract: An inductor transmission path for energy and data from a write/read station onto, for example, a chip card is disclosed. A specific, vector-oriented phase modulation with two coils is disclosed, making it possible for the write/read station to use the same method to service different cards, i.e. those with one coil, or with a large coil or having two coils.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1993Date of Patent: December 5, 1995Assignee: Angewandte Digital Electronik GmbHInventor: Hans-Diedrich Kreft

Patent number: 5442295Abstract: A method and apparatus for indicating a removal of a chip card from a corresponding write/read device are disclosed. Cards which are unpredictably electrically separated from the write/read device can store the event in the card memory and use it as information for a restart.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1994Date of Patent: August 15, 1995Assignee: Angewandte Digital Electronik GmbHInventor: Hans-Diedrich Kreft

Patent number: 5376778Abstract: Chip cards that operate contact-free are supplemented by additional elements to enable remote transmission of data. Also, elements include sensors that enable the acquisition of physical, chemical or biological information from the environment of the card. Further, the card includes elements for storing electrical energy, electronic components for constructing an electronic oscillation circuit for the remote transmission and reception of data, as well as a switch accessible by a user for selectively connecting the energy storage elements to the electronic components thereby forming an electromagnetic oscillation circuit for the transmission of electromagnetic oscillations with information modulated thereon. In a preferred embodiment, one or both of the coils that are provided on the card are connected via the switch such that the coils serve as an antenna for the electromagnetic oscillation circuit for the remote transmission of data.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1993Date of Patent: December 27, 1994Assignee: Angewandte Digital Electronik GmbHInventor: Hans-Diedrich Kreft

Patent number: 4928087Abstract: In a system having a mobile part and an immobile part between which data and energy are transmitted, an electronic control for two resonant circuits serve the purpose of transmitting energy to the mobile part. The resonant circuits are driven so that their oscillations have a prescribed phase shift relative to one another. For data transmission to the mobile part, a phase shift is superimposed on the transmitted signal at one resonant circuit. On the basis of the phase relation of the signals relative to one another, the mobile part can identify which resonant circuit is transmitting the data. The oscillation of the resonant circuit that is transmitting new data via the phase shift is used for the formation of the clock signal on the part of the mobile part.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1989Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignee: Angewandte Digital Electronik GmbHInventors: Hans-Diedrich Kreft, Holger MacKenthun, Wolfgang Hass
