    Abstract: This disclosure relates to a waterproof and weather-resistant adhesive composition for use in the manufacture of corrugated board and its preparation. More specifically, it concerns the preparation of a water-resistant paperboard adhesive containing a resin and a primary, secondary or tertiary amine compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, and R.sub.4 are the same or different and are hydrogen, alkyl groups of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, or hydroxyalkyl groups of 1 to 3 carbon atoms. This improved starch base adhesive has superior viscosity stability, improved gel temperature, and excellent pot life stability compared to an adhesive made without aminohydroxy compound.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to an adhesive composition for use in the manufacture of corrugated board and its preparation. The adhesive is prepared by using a thin boiling or modified waxy variety starch of fluidity of 25 or greater as a component in the gelatinized carrier portion of the adhesive. This produces a high solids carrier which results in a final adhesive of good stability whose use enables corrugated board to be produced at faster than normal rates. This adhesive is particularly useful to increase production rates of heavy weight and multiwall board.

    Abstract: This disclosure covers a frozen egg product which can be used to make scrambled eggs, omelets, etc., and which contains in the egg-derived solids essentially none of the fat and cholesterol of whole egg solids. The product is comprised of a mixture of liquid egg whites and egg white solids and may contain other ingredients such as non-fat milk solids, water, carboxymethyl cellulose, vegetable gums, edible alkaline salts, flavor enhancers etc., to improve the eating quality of the egg product cooked under a variety of conditions. The product containing egg whites is made by blending egg whites and small amounts of non-fat milk solids, vegetable gums, and flavor enhancers and preferably raising the pH between 9.0 and 10.0 with an alkaline salt, packaging and freezing. The egg white solids may be derived from liquid egg whites, concentrated egg whites, reconstituted freeze-dried egg whites, or reconstituted spray dried egg whites.

    Abstract: This application discloses a composition and method for gelling volatile liquids and the gelled volatile liquid. The composition comprises a cellulose ester coated with up to about 50% paraffin. When the paraffin coated particles of the cellulose ester are used to gel a volatile liquid, the gelled structure has a slower evaporation rate than the volatile liquid alone. The process of this invention includes the steps of adding melted paraffin to a cellulose ester, cooling, and stirring until free flowing granules are formed. When the granules are added to an organic solvent, the solvent gels and has a very slow rate of evaporation.

    Abstract: Starch is prepared for use in the manufacture of paper products by reacting an alkaline hypochlorite oxidized starch with ammonium persulfate. The treatment provides a starch product which when pasted at high temperatures will degrade to give a low viscosity material. The process includes the steps of slurrying lightly oxidized starch in water and further oxidizing the starch with ammonium persulfate. When this starch is suspended in water and heated to pasting, it shows lower viscosities than other starches of comparable starting viscosities.

    Abstract: This disclosure covers the use of an acid treated, high fluidity, high degree of substitution, waxy maize cationic starch in the flocculation and dewatering of municipal raw primary sludge. From 0.007 to 0.200% (based on the dry weight of the sludge) of the treated starch of about 30 to about 50 fluidity is added to raw primary municipal sludge and contacted with the sewage before the mixture is dewatered to a moisture content below about 70% moisture, which is the moisture level at which the solids will adequately sustain combustion. The starch has from about 0.15 to about 0.25 degree of substitution of an amine butene halide, specifically, 4-chloro-2-butenyl-trimethylammonium chloride.

    Abstract: This disclosure involves the acetate ester of methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose. This particular cellulose ester is useful as a gelling agent for organic solvents. The methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose acetate is prepared by the simultaneous hydroxypropylation and methylation of cellulose and by the continuation of the cellulose derivatization into acetylation. The overlapping relationship of the hydroxypropylation and acetylation processes is found to be efficient and economical in that it eliminates the difficulty of isolation and recovery of the water insoluble methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose.
