Abstract: A computer-implemented method evaluates which of a set of reference indicators has colour attributes closest to those of an object. Each respective reference indicator has different colour attributes. The method comprises determining a colour relationship between the object and at least one reference indicator of a first type by analysing a plurality of image portions, each comprising at least part of the object and at least one reference indicator of the first type placed directly on the object. The image portions each have different lighting characteristics. The method also comprises comparing the determined colour relationship to known colour relationships associated with the at least one reference indicator, each known colour relationship representing a relationship between the reference indicator and another reference indicator of the set, to identify which reference indicator of the set has colour attributes closest to those of the object.

Abstract: A method of manipulating a two-dimensional digital input image using an image operator that represents a change in a lighting characteristic calculated based on a score offset indicating a desire to manipulate the lighting characteristic by a particular degree and a mapping derived from an association between characteristics of aligned two-dimensional digital images in a dataset and a score allocated to each of a plurality of the images in the dataset, each score representing a degree of the lighting characteristic in the image, wherein the image operator and the input image are aligned, the method comprising: receiving a request comprising a score offset indicating a desire to manipulate the lighting characteristic in the input image by a particular degree; applying a calculated image operator to the input image based upon the received offset to produce a manipulated image which corresponds to the input image but with the lighting characteristic manipulated.

Abstract: A method of using a selection tool to apply selection values to a selection mask for a digital image having a plurality of pixels, each pixel having at least one pixel value, wherein the selection mask is arranged to store a selection value for each of the plurality of pixels, the method comprising: displaying on the digital image a selection tool comprising a detection zone and an application zone; determining a characteristic profile of pixel values for pixels of the detection zone based on pixel values stored in the pixels of the digital image within the detection zone; determining a respective selection value for each pixel in the application zone in dependence on a comparison of the at least one pixel value of the pixel and the characteristic profile; and storing the selection values in the selection mask.

Abstract: A method of searching for an effect to apply to an electronic media file, fee method comprising: storing a plurality of effects, each effect having one or more identifiers associated with it; receiving a search query which defines one or more search terms having one or more corresponding identifiers; retrieving a set of effects which are associated with the one or more identifiers; and outputting a set of search results comprising the set of retrieved effects, each applied to the electronic media file.
