  • Patent number: 5481145
Abstract: In order to provide a power recovery plant comprising a gas turbine with a turbine wheel and a generator with a rotor driven by the turbine wheel, in which the known bearing problems are diminished or even cease, it is suggested that the turbine and the generator be combined in a plant housing to form one unit, that the turbine wheel and the rotor form a rotor unit rotating as a whole and that the rotor unit be rotatably mounted in the plant housing by magnetic bearing units in a non-contact manner.

  • Patent number: 4878106
Abstract: A transfer molded semiconductor circuit package with two spaced, parallel, exteriorly accessible substrate plates located symmetrically to a medial plane of the package and encapsulated, to levels flush with their remote faces, in a body of low stress semiconductor grade molding compound. The package has precisely parallel outer faces constituted at least in part by the remote faces of the substrate plates and enabling full-surface engagement of the substrate plates with respective heat sinks. A method of making the package is also disclosed. The symmetry of the arrangement of the substrate plates inhibits any bending thereof during the molding of the package such as would occur in a single substrate plate due to differences between the thermal expansion coefficients of the molding compound and the substrate plates.

  • Patent number: 4684825
Abstract: 400 Hz aircraft ground power supply with a three phase AC power source connectable via an electric power relay and flexible cable provided with a socket connector to a plug connector at the aircraft. In the energizing circuit of the power relay is arranged a closing contact of a second electric relay, the energizing circuit of which is led via switching means at the socket connector to be actuated by a pin of the plug connector. Thus the closing contact of the second relay is opened as long as the socket connector is not plugged to the plug connector. A third electric relay energized via the connectors by a source of DC current on board the aircraft has a closing contact in parallel to the closing contact of the second relay in the energizing circuit of the power relay and further opening contacts disconnecting a separate source of voltage in the energizing circuit of the second relay if the third relay is energized.

  • Patent number: 4674021
Abstract: Static inverter with controlled semiconductor switches and anti-parallel diodes and with a control device for providing a current well above the rated current in the case of a short circuit in a consumer for quickly blowing a fuse in the circuit of the consumer. Anti-parallel thyristors are connected across the inverter output. The control device upon a short circuit takes over the control from the normal inverter control device and switches the semiconductor switches between two curents in the load circuit, of which the higher current represents the peak current limit for the semiconductor switches and the lower current lies considerably above the rated current. The control blocks the semiconductor switches when the current limit is reached and fires at least that thyristor which allows current to pass in the direction of the actual current flow.

  • Patent number: 4670833
Abstract: Electric semiconductor switching module for a switching arrangement with switching times of the order of magnitude of 100 ns and large currents. The switching arrangement features a parallel connection of active semiconductor switching elements and freewheel diodes, which are each arranged in direct proximity, and having a load connection of the semiconductor switching elements and freewheel diodes such that current flows in the same direction relative to the load connection through the semiconductor switching elements and the freewheel diodes. The connections for the direct current voltage source are designed with spatially closely adjacent conductors, in particular two conductor layers separated by an insulating layer.

  • Patent number: 4661660
Abstract: A cable drum 1 powered by an electric motor (2) for multi-conductor cables of heavy cross-section. To provide for insertion of the cable (4) into the cable drum (1) to be carried out without the use of slip-rings, twistable conductors (10) of high-elasticity are provided and are attached to rotate with the drum (1) at one end of a length L coaxial with the axis of rotation 1a of the drum (1). At the other end of the length L the conductors (10) are attached in a non-rotatable manner to a terminal box (15). The conductors (10) in the length L are guided between the points of attachment 12, 14 within a fixed tube (13). The terminal box (15) may be mounted on a slide 15a for movement in the axial direction of the tube and may be held under the tension of a spring (16) acting in the direction opposed to the movement. Alternatively the tube can be mounted at an angle to the axis of the rotation of the cable drum (1).

  • Patent number: 4517471
Abstract: A rotary converter machine which includes a stator with three-phase primary, and secondary windings, and a rotor mounted within the stator which includes a damping winding. The primary and secondary stator windings are arranged on a common stator pack and located in continuous stator slots, both windings extending over the whole axial length of the common stator pack. The converter machine provides a direct transfer of the electrical energy by flux linkage between the two windings. The rotor is driven by the rotating magnetic field either asynchronously, if a drum rotor is provided, or synchronously, if a salient-pole rotor is provided.

  • Patent number: 4460391
Abstract: The invention concerns a multistage centrifugal-chamber separator unit for separating solids from a gas stream. A plurality of parallel flow channels with centrifugal chambers connected to them are provided. Corresponding to the decrease of the flow volume, the total number of the centrifugal chambers in all the flow channels decreases in successive stages in the direction of flow. Transverse ducts which connect together the parallel flow channels are provided between stages with differing numbers of centrifugal chambers and are so designed that the flow channels of the following stage, reduced in number, are loaded equally by the gas stream. The separator unit has a plurality of identical structural elements which on one side have the configuration of the centrifugal chamber, including the trailing and leading edges. A plurality of separator units of this kind may be arranged parallel to one another in a housing.

  • Patent number: 4375365
Abstract: A multi-stage centrifugal chamber filter for separating solids from a gas stream. The filter has a plurality of separate multistage filter elements, each having at least one flow channel to which a plurality of centrifugal chambers is connected. The cross-section of the flow channel decreases in the direction of flow from chamber to chamber in order to provide a constant velocity of flow. The inlet and the outlet of the or each flow channel are designed to be in opposite end walls of the filter elements. A plurality of filter elements are located in a filter housing between two parallel walls spaced apart in the housing. Passages are provided in the walls for opposing inlets and outlets of the filter elements. The filter housing has at least one purified-gas outlet between the walls. The inlets and outlets of the filter elements are connected outside the walls to a crude-gas inlet and a residual-gas outlet respectively.

  • Patent number: 4375366
Abstract: The invention concerns a centrifugal chamber filter for separating solids from a gas stream. The filter has a cylindrical centrifugal chamber and outlet pipes which extend towards each other from the ends of the chamber for conducting away the purified gas. In order to convert the rotational flow energy into pressure energy, a distributor with radial blading is mounted between the adjacent inlet ends of the outlet pipes within the chamber. The outlet pipes are advantageously each provided with a nozzle ring at its inlet end. The distributor and/or the nozzle ring are advantageously designed to be slidable onto the ends of the outlet pipes.
