Abstract: While fetching the instructions from a loop in program code, a processor calculates a number of times that a backward-branching instruction at the end of the loop will actually be taken when the fetched instructions are executed. Upon determining that the backward-branching instruction has been predicted taken more than the number of times that the branch instruction will actually be taken, the processor immediately commences a mispredict operation for the branch instruction, which comprises: (1) flushing fetched instructions from the loop that will not be executed from the processor, and (2) commencing fetching instructions from an instruction following the branch instruction.

Abstract: The present invention provides convenient access to items of information that are related to various descriptors input by a user, by means of a unitary interface which is capable of accessing information in a variety of locations, through a number of different techniques. Using a plurality of heuristic algorithms to operate upon information descriptors input by the user, the present invention locates and displays candidate items of information for selection and/or retrieval. Thus, the advantages of a search engine can be exploited, while listing only relevant object candidate items of information.
Abstract: Techniques to automatically correct or complete text are disclosed. A string and keystroke timing information associated with entry of the string, for example via an input device such as a keyboard, are received. A word to suggest as a correction or completion of the string is determined based at least in part on the keystroke timing information.
Abstract: Present techniques involve methods and systems for reducing edge discoloration in a display. In one embodiment, the first and last columns of a display are dimmed by adjusting a black mask or reducing transmittance of the relevant pixels. Further, the first and last columns of a display may be entirely covered by the black mask. In some embodiments, using a coupling extrusion on a neighboring sub-pixel can be used to control the coupling between the neighboring sub-pixels to reduce edge discoloration. Display software may also be used to reduce edge discoloration. For example, software may automatically reduce the brightness of the first and last column. In some embodiments, software may be used to detect edges of objects within the display area. Edges of an object are detected, and the last sub-pixel of the background and/or the first sub-pixel of the object are compensated.

Abstract: An internal optical coating includes multiple layers of different materials and thicknesses and is disposed between a transparent display cover and a visual display unit for an electronic device display. The optical coating transmits most visible light, reflects most non-visible light and substantially absorbs blackbody radiation generated from within the electronic device. The multiple layers comprise two or more materials having alternating low and high indices of refraction, and can include 36 or more layers, each having a thickness ranging from 10 to 400 nanometers. The arrangement and thicknesses of the layers are designed based upon the thickness and optical properties of the transparent display cover. The internal optical coating can also be specially formulated to replace a typical internal anti-reflective coating proximate the visual display unit.
