Publication number: 20120054734Abstract: According to one aspect of the invention, a software update image is received by a software updater from a server over a network and stored in an update volume to update one or more system components of a computing device, where the software update image is signed by the server and includes an identifier that uniquely identifies the computing device. A volume manager dynamically resizes the system volume based on a requirement of the one or more system components to be updated without physically relocating data stored in the data volume of the storage device. The software update image is then authenticated including verifying a signature of the image and matching the ID with a unique ID embedded within the device. The one or more system components are installed from the software update image from the update volume into the resized system volume.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Applicant: APPLE INC.Inventors: Jonathan J. Publication number: 20120054004Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for booking and managing electronic campaigns. In particular, electronic campaigns are booked by obtaining a correlation between campaign input parameters for the campaign, campaign output characteristics for the campaign, and network output characteristics of network elements affected or impacted by the campaign. The correlation can then be used to identify sets of values for the input parameters that result in the various output characteristics meeting some criteria and one of the sets can thereafter be used to book an electronic campaign. At a later time, if the actual values for the various output parameters fail to meet corresponding criteria, the correlation can be updated to identify and select a new set of campaign input parameter values for the electronic campaign.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Eswar Priyadarshan, Kenley Sun, Dan Marius Grigorovici, Ravikiran Chittari, Jayasurya Vadrevu, Jeffery M. Publication number: 20120051730Abstract: Techniques are provided for determining an optimal focal position using auto-focus statistics. In one embodiment, such techniques may include generating coarse and fine auto-focus scores for determining an optimal focal length at which to position a lens associated with the image sensor. For instance, the statistics logic may determine a coarse position that indicates an optimal focus area which, in one embodiment, may be determined by searching for the first coarse position in which a coarse auto-focus score decreases with respect to a coarse auto-focus score at a previous position. Using this position as a starting point for fine score searching, the optimal focal position may be determined by searching for a peak in fine auto-focus scores. In another embodiment, auto-focus statistics may also be determined based on each color of the Bayer RGB, such that, even in the presence of chromatic aberrations, relative auto-focus scores for each color may be used to determine the direction of focus.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 1, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Applicant: APPLE INC.Inventors: Guy Côté, Jeffrey E. Publication number: 20120054302Abstract: The selection of invitational content to deliver to a user can be influenced by the user's current location. Periodically, the content delivery system prioritizes the invitational content that is eligible for delivery to the user based on information about the user and the user's interactions with items of invitational content. Upon resolving a location associated with the user's device, the content delivery system re-prioritizes the invitational content. The re-prioritization can be based on the user's assignment to spatial-temporal segments or the user's proximity to predefined landmarks. An item is then selected from the re-prioritized invitational content and delivered to the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Eswar Priyadarshan, Irfan Mohammed, Dan Marius Grigorovici, Omar Abdala

Publication number: 20120052807Abstract: Techniques for facilitating communication between a portable media device (PMD) and an accessory via multiple communication paths. In one set of embodiments, an accessory can be coupled with a PMD via a first connection, thereby establishing a first control communication path. The accessory can send to the PMD, via the first control communication path, an enumeration of the communication paths supported by the accessory. The enumerated communication paths can include control communication paths and data (e.g., audio or video) communication paths. The accessory can further send, to the PMD via the first control communication path, an availability status of each data communication path. In response, the PMD can select, based on a routing policy, one or more of the data communication paths and can notify the accessory of the selected data communication path. The PMD and accessory can then interoperate by exchanging data signals over the selected data communication path.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 29, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Shailesh Rathi, Peter Lagenfeld, Lawrence Bolton
