    Abstract: Wearable electronic devices, such as smart watches, can be provided with a band for securing the device to a wearer. The device and the band can include near-field communications (NFC) components that allow the device to uniquely identify the band. Device operations such as the color, theme, or content displayed on the device can be based, in part, on the identification of a particular band. The band may include a miniature NFC tag in an attachment portion of the band that is configured to be received in a recess in a housing of the device. An NFC module for reading the NFC tag can be provided within the recess of the housing, so that the attachment portion of the band and the recess in the device housing position and align the NFC tag with the NFC module when the band is attached to the device.

    Abstract: A generative network may be learned in an adversarial setting with a goal of modifying synthetic data such that a discriminative network may not be able to reliably tell the difference between refined synthetic data and real data. The generative network and discriminative network may work together to learn how to produce more realistic synthetic data with reduced computational cost. The generative network may iteratively learn a function that synthetic data with a goal of generating refined synthetic data that is more difficult for the discriminative network to differentiate from real data, while the discriminative network may be configured to iteratively learn a function that classifies data as either synthetic or real. Over multiple iterations, the generative network may learn to refine the synthetic data to produce refined synthetic data on which other machine learning models may be trained.

    Abstract: In some aspects, mobile devices with foldable and rollable displays can use a sensor to detect vertical acceleration with respect to the ground to determine if the mobile device has been dropped. If the sensor detects that the mobile device has been dropped the foldable device can fold or retract at least partially to afford protection from the fragile display from striking the ground. Even folding the display to an angle less the 180 degrees can afford some protection because the mobile device can strike edges of the mobile device instead of the display itself. In various embodiments, a rollable device can retract the display if predetermined acceleration limits are exceeded.
