Patent number: 11184850Abstract: A recipient electronic device that provides an acknowledgment is described. This recipient electronic device may include a main radio and a wake-up radio (WUR) that at least selectively transitions the main radio from a lower-power mode to a higher-power mode in response to a wake-up frame. During operation, the WUR receives a wake-up frame associated with an electronic device, e.g., a second or a sending device. Then, the WUR provides, in response to the wake-up frame, the acknowledgement intended for the electronic device. The wake-up frame may specify that an acknowledgement from the recipient electronic device to the electronic device is expected. For example, the wake-up frame may specify that the acknowledgement is communicated by the recipient electronic device using the WUR in the recipient electronic device. Moreover, the WUR may provide the acknowledgment while the main radio is in the lower-power mode.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2018Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Guoqing Li, Oren Shani, Yong Liu

Patent number: 11184756Abstract: Systems and methods of providing steering of roaming (SOR) information in a 5G VPLMN are described. A UE receives a REGISTRATION ACCEPT message from an AMF of the VPLMN during initial or mobility registration of the UE in the VPLMN and DL NAS TRANSPORT message thereafter. The message has a Payload container information element (IE) set to secured packet. The SOR information indicates a list of preferred PLMN/access technology combinations, which is uploaded to a memory after a successful security check to verify that the list of preferred PLMN/access technology combinations is provided by the UDM of the HPLMN and is not tampered with by the VPLMN. When the message also contains a request for acknowledgment of successful security check of the list of preferred PLMN/access technology combinations, the UE transmits to the AMF the acknowledgment in a REGISTRATION COMPLETE or a DL NAS TRANSPORT message.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2019Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vivek G. Patent number: 11184856Abstract: This disclosure relates to a method for reducing power consumption of a first device for use in a wireless communication system. The first device receives a signal within a first reference sub-frame of a radio channel. The device determines whether to use the signal for obtaining channel state information to be reported to a second device within a reporting sub-frame, or whether to receive and use a second signal within a second reference sub-frame of the radio channel for obtaining channel state information to be reported to the second device within said predetermined later sub-frame. Based on this determination, the first device reports channel state information obtained based on the signal received within said first reference sub-frame or said second signal within said second reference sub-frame to the second device within said reporting sub-frame.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2016Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Sven Dortmund, Mathias Kurth, Matthias Hofmann, Sabine Roessel

Patent number: 11182980Abstract: Various implementations disclosed herein include devices, systems, and methods for identifying virtual object kits that may be used to generate a target virtual object. In some implementations, a method includes obtaining a plurality of virtual object kits that generate variations of respective virtual object types. Each virtual object kit is associated with a characteristic parameter. For each virtual object kit, a subset of possible virtual object variations of the virtual object type is generated by assigning corresponding values to the characteristic parameter based on a distribution criterion. A subset of the plurality of virtual object kits is identified based on the target virtual object being within a similarity threshold of one or more virtual object variations generated using the subset of the plurality of virtual object kits in response to a request to assemble a target virtual object.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2021Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Shem Nguyen, Arnold Henry Cachelin, Novaira Masood, Eric John Geusz, Pravalika Avvaru

Patent number: 11184153Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are presented to generate, and verify reception of, ultra wideband (UWB) communications, e.g., to perform secure UWB ranging. Verifier and prover messages may be encoded on top of random cryptographically secure training sequence (STS) of pulses, organized in blocks such that a given block corresponds to a given message bit. In some scenarios, a first STS may be encoded using a verifier message not known to a recipient device. A second STS may be received from the recipient device, encoded with an unknown prover message. A third STS may also be received, encoded with an authentication message generated using the verifier message and the authentication message. Verification of the authentication message can therefore confirm that the recipient device received the first STS, and that the recipient device is the authentic source of the second STS. Thus, the second STS may be relied upon, e.g., for ranging calculations.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2019Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Joachim S. Patent number: 11184810Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are presented to locate a wireless communication device. A target device may be out of range of a source device for normal ranging communications according to a first radio access technology (RAT), such as ultra wideband (UWB) communications. A source device may therefore modify communications according to the first RAT, to increase the transmit power, while removing the data payload. The target device may utilize the signal strength and angle of arrival of the modified communications to guide the user to move toward the source device, e.g., until the target device is within range to perform normal ranging communications. A second RAT, such as Bluetooth, may be used to communicate between the two devices while the target device is out of range of the first RAT. For example, the target device may use the second RAT to communicate to the source device to start/stop transmitting modified communications.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2019Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vusthla Sunil Reddy, Alejandro J.
