  • Patent number: 10642845
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for improving search results returned to a user from one or more domains, utilizing query features learned locally on the user's device. One or more domains can inform a computing device of one or more features related to a search query upon which to the computing device can apply local learning. A local search system can include a local database, a local search history and feedback history database, and a local learning system to identify features about query terms. The features can be learned from the user's interaction with both local search results and remote search results, without sending the user interaction information or other user identification information to a remote search engine. A locally learned feature can be used to extend a query, bias a query term, or filter query results.

  • Patent number: 10639746
Abstract: A ceramic-based component including laser-etched markings, an electronic device including a ceramic-based component, and methods of forming the same. The ceramic-based component may include an outer surface, and a laser-etched marking formed on the outer surface. The laser-etched marking may include a recess having a substantially uneven surface formed in the outer surface. The recess may have a material composition distinct from a material composition of the outer surface. The method of forming the ceramic-based component may include laser etching an outer surface of a ceramic-based component, and in response to the laser etching, forming a laser-etched marking on the outer surface of the ceramic-based component. The method may also include altering the optically reflective properties of the laser-etched marking and/or altering a material composition of the laser-etched marking relative to a distinct material composition of the outer surface of the ceramic-based component.

  • Patent number: 10642049
Abstract: A pass-through camera in a head-mounted device may capture image data for displaying on a display in the head-mounted device. However, only low-resolution image data may be needed to display low-resolution images in the periphery of the user's field of view on the display. Therefore, the pass-through camera may only capture high-resolution images that correspond to the portion of the user's field-of-view that is being directly viewed and may capture lower resolution image data that corresponds to the real-world objects in the user's peripheral vision. To enable the camera module to selectively capture high-resolution images, the pass-through camera may include an image sensor with two or more pixel densities, a distortion lens, and/or one or more planar or curved mirrors. Any of the components in the camera module may be adjusted to change which portion of a scene is captured with high-resolution image data.

  • Patent number: 10643391
Abstract: A VR system for vehicles that may implement methods that address problems with vehicles in motion that may result in motion sickness for passengers. The VR system may provide virtual views that match visual cues with the physical motions that a passenger experiences. The VR system may provide immersive VR experiences by replacing the view of the real world with virtual environments. Active vehicle systems and/or vehicle control systems may be integrated with the VR system to provide physical effects with the virtual experiences. The virtual environments may be altered to accommodate a passenger upon determining that the passenger is prone to or is exhibiting signs of motion sickness.

  • Patent number: 10644708
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing a two-point calibration of a VCO in a PLL is disclosed. The method includes determining a first steady state tuning voltage of the VCO with no modulation voltage applied. Thereafter, an iterative process may be performed wherein a modulation voltage is applied to the VCO (along with the tuning voltage) and a modified divisor is applied to the divider circuit in the feedback loop. During each iteration, after the PLL is settled, the tuning voltage is measured and a difference between the current value and the first value is determined. If the current and first values of the turning voltage are not equal, another iteration may be performed, modifying at least one of the modulation voltage and the divisor, and determining the difference between the current and first values of the tuning voltage.

  • Patent number: 10644744
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are presented to reduce multiuser interference resulting from two or more overlapping ultra wideband (UWB) transmissions by randomizing the start time of packets and/or bursts within the packets. A random offset time may be generated for a packet, and transmission of the packet may be arbitrarily delayed by that random offset time, relative to an earlier time at which the packet is prepared for transmission. A random offset time may be generated for a pulse burst within a symbol of a packet, and transmission of the burst may be delayed by that random offset time, relative to a nominal transmission window within the symbol. The burst may therefore occupy a portion of a guard period following the nominal transmission window. Either procedure, or both procedures, may be used to reduce multiuser interference between two concurrently transmitted packets by randomizing overlap occurring between the bursts.

  • Publication number: 20200136748
Abstract: Some embodiments of this disclosure include apparatuses and methods for implementing a requirement negotiation for an error vector magnitude (EVM) (or other metrics for measuring transmission signal quality) for ranging and/or positioning operation(s). Some embodiments relate to an electronic device including a transceiver and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the transceiver. The one or more processors transmit, during a negotiation phase of a ranging operation, an initial request frame to a second electronic device, wherein the initial request frame comprises a first indication of an error vector magnitude (EVM) requirement. The one or more processors receive an initial response frame from the second electronic device and determine a second indication of the EVM requirement based at least in part on the received initial response frame. The one or more processors implement a measurement phase of the ranging operation in accordance with the second indication of the EVM requirement.

  • Publication number: 20200137193
Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for efficiently monitoring the operating context of a computing device. In some implementations, the context daemon and/or the context client can be terminated to conserve system resources. For example, if the context daemon and/or the context client are idle, they can be shutdown to conserve battery power or free other system resources (e.g., memory). When an event occurs (e.g., a change in current context) that requires the context daemon and/or the context client to be running, the context daemon and/or the context client can be restarted to handle the event. Thus, system resources can be conserved while still providing relevant context information collection and callback notification features.

  • Publication number: 20200137349
Abstract: In some implementations, a user device can be configured to create media messages with automatic titling. For example, a user can create a media messaging project that includes multiple video clips. The video clips can be generated based on video data and/or audio data captured by the user device and/or based on pre-recorded video data and/or audio data obtained from various storage locations. When the user device captures the audio data for a clip, the user device can obtain a speech-to-text transcription of the audio data in near real time and present the transcription data (e.g., text) overlaid on the video data while the video data is being captured or presented by the user device.

  • Publication number: 20200133453
Abstract: Techniques are provided for implementing near-view notification techniques. In some instances, a viewing distance with respect to a display screen of an electronic device may be determined. In accordance with a determination that the viewing distance is above a distance threshold, content may be presented on the display screen. In accordance with a determination that the viewing distance is under a distance threshold, until the viewing distance returns to being above the distance threshold, a visual notification may be displayed. The visual notification may disrupt the content presented on the display screen.
