  • Patent number: 10601468
Abstract: This disclosure relates to the inductive charging of portable electronic devices. In particular, a charging assembly is disclosed that allows a portable electronic device to be charged in multiple orientations with respect to a charging device. The charging assembly includes two or more separate inductive receiving coils. The inductive receiving coils can be arranged orthogonally with respect to one another by wrapping one or more secondary receiving coils around a primary receiving coil. By orienting the receiving coils orthogonally with respect to one another, the likelihood of at least one of the receiving coils being aligned with a charging field emitted by a charging device increases substantially.

  • Patent number: 10602374
Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE), an Evolved Node-B (eNB), small-cell access point (AP), and methods for dynamic millimeter wave pencil cell communication are generally described herein. The UE may receive access point reference signals (APRS) from one or more small-cell access points (AP), and may transmit APRS signal quality measurements to a macro-cell Evolved Node-B (eNB). The UE may receive, from the macro-cell eNB, a message that indicates candidate pencil cells for which the UE is to determine signal quality measurements, the candidate pencil cells supported by the small-cell APs. The UE may receive beam reference signals (BRS) for the candidate pencil cells and may refrain from reception of BRS for pencil cells not included in the message. In some cases, beam-widths of the APRSs may be larger than beam-widths of the BRSs.

  • Patent number: 10593294
Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display mounted in a housing. Color ambient light sensors may make measurements of ambient light intensity and color through windows in an inactive border region of the display or other portions of the device. The electronic device may process the ambient light measurements based on ambient light information from the ambient light sensors and based on information from additional sensors such as an image sensor, a force sensor, a capacitive touch sensor, a proximity sensor, an orientation sensor, and other devices. Control circuitry in the electronic device may produce reliable ambient light measurements by combining readings from multiple reliable sources and by discarding readings from ambient light sensors that are blocked by a user's fingers or other external objects. Display color cast and intensity may be adjusted based on ambient light information.

  • Patent number: 10591956
Abstract: This is directed to a case for securing and protecting an electronic device. The case can include a cover connected to a pouch by a hinge such that the cover can be overlaid over a device interface (e.g., a device display). The case can be constructed by layering and combining several types of materials, including for example materials having resistant outer surfaces, materials limiting the deformation of the case, materials providing a soft surface to be placed in contact with the device, and rigid materials for defining a structure of the case. In some embodiments, the case can include a tab that allows a user to fold open the cover of the case to form a triangular prism. The prism can be placed on any of its surfaces such that the device can be oriented towards a user at particular angles (e.g., a typing-specific orientation and a media playback orientation).

  • Patent number: 10594835
Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for efficiently monitoring the operating context of a computing device. In some implementations, the context daemon and/or the context client can be terminated to conserve system resources. For example, if the context daemon and/or the context client are idle, they can be shutdown to conserve battery power or free other system resources (e.g., memory). When an event occurs (e.g., a change in current context) that requires the context daemon and/or the context client to be running, the context daemon and/or the context client can be restarted to handle the event. Thus, system resources can be conserved while still providing relevant context information collection and callback notification features.

  • Patent number: 10594170
Abstract: A wireless power system may use a wireless power transmitting device to transmit wireless power to a wireless power receiving device. The wireless power transmitting device may transmit wireless power at a wireless power transmission frequency. Wireless power signals at the wireless power transmission frequency can create interference with a sensitive electrical component in the wireless power receiving device when the wireless power transmission frequency lies in a sensitive frequency band associated with the component. Measurement circuitry in the wireless power receiving device can measure the wireless power transmission frequency. In response to determining that the wireless power transmission frequency lies in a sensitive frequency band, the wireless power receiving device may send an in-band wireless power level adjustment request to the wireless power transmitting device. The request causes a frequency adjustment that moves the wireless power transmission frequency out of the sensitive band.

  • Patent number: 10592458
Abstract: A data network may include a data bus and network nodes. The data bus may be a differential data bus having first and second differential signal lines that convey differential signals between the nodes. A bimodal impedance terminator may be coupled to the first and second differential signal lines at one or both ends of the data bus. The bimodal impedance terminator may include a first resistor coupled between the first differential signal line and a circuit node and a second resistor coupled between the second differential signal line and the circuit node. A capacitor may be coupled between the circuit node and ground. A third resistor may be coupled between the circuit node and ground in series with the capacitor. The bimodal impedance terminator may terminate both the differential-mode impedance and the common-mode impedance of the data bus to reduce signal reflections at the ends of the data bus.

  • Patent number: 10593346
Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to processing speech or text using rank-reduced token representation. In one example process, speech input is received. A sequence of candidate words corresponding to the speech input is determined. The sequence of candidate words includes a current word and one or more previous words. A vector representation of the current word is determined from a set of trained parameters. A number of parameters in the set of trained parameters varies as a function of one or more linguistic characteristics of the current word. Using the vector representation of the current word, a probability of a next word given the current word and the one or more previous words is determined. A text representation of the speech input is displayed based on the determined probability.

  • Patent number: 10592095
Abstract: Systems and processes are disclosed for initiating and controlling content speaking on touch-sensitive devices. A gesture can be detected on a touchscreen for causing text to be spoken. Displayed content can be analyzed, and a determination can be made based on size, position, and other attributes as to which portion of displayed text should be spoken. In response to detecting the gesture, the identified portion of text can be spoken using a text-to-speech process. A menu of controls can be displayed for controlling the speaking. The menu can automatically be hidden and a persistent virtual button can be displayed that can remain available on the touchscreen despite the user navigating to another view. Selecting the persistent virtual button can restore the full menu of controls, thereby allowing the user to continue to control the speaking even after navigating away from the content being spoken.
