Patent number: 10111821Abstract: Methods are disclosed for administering electromagnetic radiation (EMR), which may include filtering EMR from part of the EMR spectrum while allowing passage of EMR at a desired wavelength range. Uses may include the treatment of such conditions as psoriasis, vitiligo, pruritus, acne, vitamin-D deficiency and atopic dermatitis. Topical creams, sprays, or other compositions may be used, with or without dosimeters, or in conjunction with an application, which calculates local UV exposure and other factors relating to dosage.Type: GrantFiled: December 31, 2013Date of Patent: October 30, 2018Assignee: Applied Biology, Inc.Inventors: Andy Ofer Goren, John McCoy

Publication number: 20140023618Abstract: A specific naturally occurring or genetically modified bacterial strain can be introduced into the hair follicle of patients suffering from androgenetic alopecia as to reduce the bioavailable extracellular testosterone and hence reduce the effect of androgens on the hair follicle.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2013Publication date: January 23, 2014Applicant: APPLIED BIOLOGYInventors: Andy O. Goren, John McCoy

Publication number: 20130310730Abstract: Methods are disclosed for administering electromagnetic radiation (EMR), which may include filtering EMR from part of the EMR spectrum while allowing passage of EMR at a desired wavelength. A fluorescent component may be included, which absorbs EMR at one wavelength and emits EMR at the desired wavelength. Uses may include the treatment of acne. Pruritus may also be treated by allowing the passage to the skin of a particular UV wavelength from sunlight, which has an immunosuppressive effect, while protecting the skin from other harmful UV radiation.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 22, 2013Publication date: November 21, 2013Applicant: Applied Biology, Inc.Inventors: Andy Ofer Goren, John McCoy

Patent number: 4709576Abstract: Apparatus for determining if an underground storage tank is leaking provides simple determination by a layman. A housing containing a detection tube is lowered into a well in the vicinity of the tank, and a vacuum pump pulls air through the detection tube. The sampled air will disclose the presence, or not, of vapor from the suspected tank. The method includes the use of discrete sample of air, and the quantity of air is determined by use of a detection tube sensitive to carbon dioxide. An indication of a quantity of carbon dioxide can be related to a volume of air through known relationships. Preferably, the housing containing the detection tube is carried by a float so the intake is just above the surface of any water in the well.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1986Date of Patent: December 1, 1987Assignee: Applied Biology, Inc.Inventor: Austin B. Raabe

Patent number: 4463762Abstract: Apparatus employing a non-invasive method for objectively determining in vivo, the rate of oxygen utilization in peripheral tissue by spectral measuring means, containing a light source, a clamp or tourniquet for occluding a segment of blood in the tissue, means for transmitting the light through the isolated segment of blood to pick up the spectral values of the oxyhemoglobin for two selected wavelengths, wherein the rate of reduction of the oxyhemoglobin of the blood as determined at one wavelength is faster that the rate of reduction of the oxyhemoglobin at the other wavelength, means for converting the spectral values individually for the two selected wavelengths into current flow, and means for determining the time-space relationship between the changing spectral values of the two selected wavelengths, from the moment of occlusion.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1980Date of Patent: August 7, 1984Assignee: Institute of Applied Biology Special Cancer Research ProjectInventor: Harry E. Rubens

Patent number: 4266881Abstract: The pen consists of two pen bodies, preferably identical, which interlock with each other in a plurality of longitudinal positions. Each of the pen bodies is preferably provided with a seat for positioning a ball point cartridge therein. Movement of the pen bodies will cause the cartridges seated therein to be protracted or retracted.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1978Date of Patent: May 12, 1981Assignee: Institute of Applied Biology Charitable Research TrustInventor: Harry E. Rubens

Patent number: 4222389Abstract: A non-invasive method of objectively determining, in vivo, the rate of oxygen utilization in peripheral tissue by spectral measuring means, which involves isolating a segment of blood in the tissue with a clamp or tourniquet, and obtaining rapid, successive spectral curves of the oxyhemoglobin in the occluded area, to and from selected wavelengths of light, and measuring the time-space relationship between a rapidly moving portion of the spectral curve and a slower moving adjacent portion of the same curve, from the moment of occlusion, to establish a rate of reduction of the oxyhemoglobin in the tissue which is directly correlated to the rate of oxygen utilization.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1977Date of Patent: September 16, 1980Assignee: Institute of Applied Biology Special Cancer Research ProjectInventor: Harry E.
