Publication number: 20210130176Abstract: A colloidal silica solution which includes two or more colloidal silica compositions or suspensions having differing particle sizes and specific surface areas, the compositions or suspensions resulting in a multimodal particle size distribution in which the solution or suspension can be bimodal in nature and composed of, but not limited to, particles with a mode of 4 nm and 20 nm or composed of particles 7 nm and 12 nm. The solution or suspension can also be trimodal and composed of, but not limited to, 4 nm, 7 nm and 15 nm or 3 nm, 5 nm, and 20 nm. The solution or suspension can also include other multimodal systems which would give superior water drainage and fiber and ash retention on paper machines. The colloidal silica solution is a drainage and retention aid in the making of paper.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2020Publication date: May 6, 2021Applicant: Applied Material Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Thomas Rebernak, Robert Ellis Wilson, Michael Timothy Jennings

Patent number: 10954130Abstract: A method for producing an additive for reclaiming oil from a fluid product stream and a treated silica with controlled hydrophobicity are disclosed. The method includes the steps of providing silica or silicate with a particle size of between 3.0 ?m to 20 ?m, the silica or silicates having an agglomerate size of between 10 ?m to 100 ?m and being chosen to achieve the desired particle-size range and with a controlled level of hydrophobicity; treating the silica or silicate with a silicone or silane to make it hydrophobic; and controlling the hydrophobicity of the silica or silicate by varying the temperature and treatment time of the silica or silicate, amount of a treating material used to treat the silica or silicate, and the molecular weight of the treating material. The additive improves oil extraction and concentration from a fluid product stream.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2020Date of Patent: March 23, 2021Assignee: Applied Material Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Michael T. Jennings, Robert Wilson

Patent number: 10745283Abstract: A method for producing an additive for reclaiming oil from a fluid product stream and a treated silica with controlled hydrophobicity for use in the method are disclosed. The additive and related method improves oil extraction and concentration from a fluid product stream.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2018Date of Patent: August 18, 2020Assignee: Applied Material Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Michael T. Publication number: 20180071658Abstract: A chemical additive for reclaiming oil from a fluid product stream is described. In embodiments, chemical additive compositions comprise a propylene glycol ester, a hydrophobic silica, a polyglycol ester or a polyglycerol oleate ester, a polyethoxylate sorbitan or sorbitan ester and a block copolymer or ethylene oxide-propylene oxide polymer. Less chemical additive is needed for improved oil extraction and concentration and a shorter incubation time is required, which reduces cycle time and energy consumption.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2016Publication date: March 15, 2018Applicant: Applied Material Solutions, Inc.Inventors: Travis Hale, Robert Scobell, Sean Skweres
