    Abstract: The specification discloses a method for making a high density prill particularly useful in making an emulsion explosive composition. The method comprises incorporating certain sulfonate additives during the prilling process in order to make a porous ammonium nitrate matrix having a density of at least about 54 pounds per cubic foot (0.86 kg/L) and a concentration of greater than about 99.5 wt. % ammonium nitrate which exhibits a high oil absorption capacity.
